Make a cool abstracts Using 3D Object plugin. Good for Backgrounds
Plugins needed: 3D Object by evanolds Click for Video Version of this tutorial 1- Open new file 800 x 600 pix, note that bigger canvas better quality. 2- Make a gradient as desired: 3- Open 3D Object plugin, select Graph type, and type your equation in the Equation bar, then rotate the up left cube and play with the View Distance till you satisfied with your shape: Type exactly these examples of equations to get the corresponding shape of each one: You can combine two or more shapes and play with the blend mode and colors to create more complex images. Enjoy, show what you can come up with.

WOW! Now that is a great way to argue that you don't need a 3D program to do this!

This is an awesome tutorial! How did you figure this out? This is my go (used this as a starting point, then did my own thing to it):

That is so beautiful BR, try to work on a larger canvas to get smoother edges.

Great outcome BR! I really like the yellow smoky background too. Good to see you do some PDN again. The black gives it a real lift too.

Welshy uses AA & Feather. Doesn't work for me I use 4 times bigger & Gaussian Blur @2. Takes a while to get back into the swing Patty. I miss those glassy abstracts that you used to do.

Thanks you guys for the tips , I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't think about the jaggies , the AA and feather doesn't work either only for render cutting and text making it works pretty good . Well barbie who knows you might see a glass abstract one day soon ^_^

I know Barbie works on with big canves's.I find it slow's down my computer.I use default size,800by 600 and use AA asistant a lot.You work with whatever work's for you.Looking at image I think AA asistant would fix jagged outline.

Great tut. Must have a go. How do you work out the equations? I never passed my maths exams at school so they are a bit of a mystery to me.

Thanks Sargon III.
I don't really understand the equations, I used the ones provided. And played a bit changing some of the numbers just to see what happens.

I was and still very good at math, but these equations were just trial and error, I am also not good when it comes at adopting math in programing. But I think sin, cosine and tangent control the curvature, and numbers with other math sings control the length and extending if I am not wrong.
