@sargon: The one you mentioned that you used. I think that it might have a limited time now, but not sure. I haven't used it long enough.

New free graphics program just out - RealWorld Paint. Remember when Rick had a problem with another graphics program calling itself Paint.com? Well I think this is the finished program with a new name. Frankly I think it looks interesting. It is compatible with other image editors including PDN and even imports projects with the layers intact. No flattening necessary. I think it is everything that PDN should be. At the bottom of the page the website even gives you a choice of backgrounds to choose from . What a great idea. Here is the link - www.rw-designer.com/forum It installs nice and quickly, and the EULA is easy to read and understand. Can`t get it to open a PDN file though and after trying it out I don`t think it`s a match for PDN after all.

No, the PDN support is not working PDN --> RW. Haven't tried the other way. May do that some day. Part of this program looks good, and parts not so good. Need more time getting used to. If i remember correct this guy pooped up in the main forum and suggested some sort of cooperation. But Rick didn't like that the program was called Paint.Com back then.

It was mainly the PDN compatibility that attracted me to this program as it would have been nice to be able to add layer styles to the project and then import back to PDN for finishing off. But as it does not work like it should I don`t think I`ll keep it.

Well, had my go at PSD and PDN saving. Not encouraging. Best advise is back up your files before saving new versions in RW.

Goon, I donwloaded the program last night to take a peek. While the idea was good, I didn't like the interface, and the filters' menu was lacking. To top it off, there would be a need to download tons of PS-plug-ins to run some effect. I think with the way PDN is going and the PS-effect plug-ins on the main board is more than enough. Thanks for the sharing the software anyway.

I couldn`t agree more Lance. Got rid of it. Certainly never lived up to expectations.

Expectations are treacherous. Anyway, now there is an update that allows you to import .pdn into RW even if it is saved by the latest version of Paint.net 3.5.10. You can get it from www.rw-designer.com/plugin/download32/RWCodecImagePaintNet.dll and replace it in your installation folder or you can download the whole thing again from www.rw-designer.com/image-editor (it could be difficult to navigate to the download page from the link given above). Keeping the original version of the files as suggested by Leif is always a good idea, importing and exporting is usually not 100% effective and there could be losses (like EXIF metadata).

Now it CAN open pdn files. But not sure it likes big files. Opened a 15 layer pdn and just saved it again. --> One layer went completely blank. Opened a 1000 X 1500 pix jpg. Made a new layer and drew a circle. --> Program froze when saving.

Could you send the 15-layer .pdn to vlastimil.miler@gmail.com? I'd like to find out why that layer went blank. Or if it is available somewhere on the internet...
Not sure what could be the problem with the .jpg. 1.5 megapixel image should be a piece of cake.

Don`t know why I havn`t mentioned it in this thread until now but Blender is now available with a much improved UI and a new render engine called Cycles that gives much more realistic results. I know it is still a complex program and takes a bit of time to learn but there are plenty of tuts out there to practice with.

It`s like with any program. The more time you spend using it , the more familiar it will become. Don`t be put off by how it looks. It`s surprisingly easy to use once you get to know it.

New program for all you aircraft buffs - Microsoft Flight. It`s a free flying game along the lines of FS2004 and FSX except it is obviously simplified somewhat. It`s really aimed at people who just want to get in the plane and fly instead of having to go through checklists and routines as in the more advanced programs which is why I referred to it as a game rather than a simulator. It`s still good fun as a first go at this sort of thing. But be warned-if you want more planes you have to buy them from the Games for Windows Marketplace and if you don`t have an Xbox account you need to open one, whether you have an actual Xbox or not. Also it is not backwards compatible with the previous flight sims so you can`t use aircraft made for these in Microsoft Flight, which is a bit of a bummer as there are some superb free aircraft available. I suppose they are paying for the development costs of the program by charging for extras. You don`t have to buy them though. So far I have made do with the default Icon and the Stearman biplane. Anyway , if you fancy a bash go ahead. Just don`t expect a full blown flight sim or you will be disappointed. Update on Flight - MS has stopped development already! For whatever reason, probably financial, they are no longer working on new DLC for people to download. What is there now is all you will ever be able to get. Such a shame as Flight had such potential and graphics wise it left all the other sims in the dust. MS are not abandoning it completely though. All present DLC will remain supported and the servers used for multiplayer will continue to operate. Everything will work as normal , just no more DLC.
