Good news indeed. Music is such a great way of communicating moods. You can also experience music that is sad and depressing. But i can assure you that the voyage in to the world of music will be an interesting one. Don't worry if you don't understand the words. Some of the worlds greatest music is entirely instrumental.

Echoing everyone else's nice words mate. To be honest I'd be totally lost without music to lift my spirits when I'm down. I'm glad you can do the same - no matter how limited it may be

Lance, I understand what a great experience this is for you & I am so very happy for you.
Deafness is such a hidden disability, as you & I well know.
I'd give you a big hug if I could!

Yippeeee Now to get used to Windows 7 It took me over an hour to get the new mail set up ..... no more Outlook Express. But, so far, I think Windows 7 has more to offer. However, what a P A I N getting used to the new format. Groan ;D

Pixey: That's great. Yeah, it's always harder to get used to new things, but it's not that bad.

Outlook was less than 5 minutes for me to get set up but I still have to do the signature part. It does take a bit to get used to but once you know where things are, its so easy. PDNing is so, so much better & faster with the few bits I have tried so far.

I want a new computer too! *pout* ;D You might not if you saw me today trying to move everything over to the new system However, Paint.Net does look awesome in Windows 7. It looks almost like brand new software. BBQ's tip on saving the effects folder worked like a dream after I downloaded Paint.Net. Ella - I doubt even a new computer will help me much in my work ...... but stuff does look a lot prettier ;D

Pixey, you should take advantage of something Windows has to transfer some files. That should save you some considerable time, unless you have it manually saved somewhere else?

Windows Easy Transfer I think it`s called. This article explains it better than I ever could and there is a video as well - windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-easy-transferPersonally when I changed from my old laptop to the new one I just saved the files I needed on an external hard disk , connected it to the new one and copied them across. I would have been easier to use the Easy Transfer method though.

Many thanks @lance and Goonfella. I did attempt to use the wizzard MS supplied, Windows Easy Transfer, but it seemed to want to copy everything - which I didn't want to do as I've got everything important on an external drive. It's just little things, like Favourites, etc., which I can transfer piece-meal. Now to get rid of the annoying log-on window that keeps popping up ....... which must be due to HP and not Windows 7

I have to log on to my laptop everytime I want to use it, and I have a Dell. I think it's Windows 7 and that's probably by design. I think there's a way to stop that, but it might require some looking into.

I remember my Dell (W7) asked for a password first time i turned it on. It said that if i didn't make one, it would log on automatically. I use a password as i am kind of used to it from work; and just a bit of more security. If i were to remove it, i would look in the change password help file.

Hi Lance and Leif - I have done some research and it seems that it IS a windows 7 complaint and not my HP computer. I don't think one can get rid of this logon prompt without getting a 'hack'. I have managed to disable actually having to use a p/w, but I still need to hit the box to get things started. Grrrrr! Apparently it's meant to be some kind of safety thing. Oh well ...... I guess I'll get used to it in time. Thanks for all your suggestions

Thanks Gooney ..... I had done that for the Administrator, which was myself, but I went back in again - after reading your post and noticed that there was another client, called Homeusers, so I went in, did the same, rebooted and BINGO the nasty logon box has now gone. Thanks so much EDIT: Oh dear, after 5 mins it was back

Thank goodness mine doesn't do that...it is really annoying. Hubby has his set to that & I know that it would drive me insane.
I love my new pc...getting better at navigating the new system too.
Joy oh joy! Hubby helped me put in a new garden. The neighbour allowed me to take all the rocks from his garden. I'm guessing he either had no idea how heavy these suckers are or he knew & has a perverse sense of humour. There's about 60 of them. He also helped clean up the neighbours yard & mulched/chipped so much that I was able to fill the entire garden with about 3 inches of mulch. We are very sore & tired but really happy. We put the garden in because it was a dead area & when we get rain the dogs like to lie there & then come inside.
Another bit of good news: the council workers gave me about a square metre of fantastic loam for the garden, so I was able to fill all the low spots & cover more of the horrible black soil that the dogs love to lie in when it rains. I still have about 6 barrowloads to shift. Look like I'll be filling a few pots around the place too.

Well as you might have read in the rant section I busted my mouse last night. Today I bought a new one and I`m really pleased with it. It is a Logitech M705 - a bit better than the last one . This has a tiny dongle for the receiver so I don`t have to keep removing it when I`m finished with the laptop. But best of all is the Application Switcher function. If you have several different apps open you can press down on the side of the mouse and all the windows appear onscreen for you to choose which app you want to navigate to. So easy . I did find it difficult to find where to download the Setpoint software from though. They should have a URL printed on the paperwork somewhere telling you where to go , but amazingly they don`t. And you need the software to get the full functionality of the mouse. I ended up just Googling Logitech mice and got to the appropriate page that way. Not a good way to have to do it though and a lot of people I`m sure would just not bother. My last Loggy mouse had an installation disc for the software so there was no problem . Apart from that I would recommend Logitech mice to anyone.
Had another look at the instructions and the web address is there but ,unlike all the other URL`s, it is not written in bold lettering which is why I missed it.
