Christmas songs?? LOL I love them, but for some reason, when I'm decorating I listen to all my osmond music. 6 hours straight of Donny Osmond and family. Brings me back to my childhood days when things were simpler and the wonder of Christmas and all other holidays were something to be excited about I guess.
oh gosh, did I really admit to being an Osmond fan??? LOL soooo tempted to delete this... ah well.... it's me LOL

Venice, I was an Osmond fan too! Not something I usually admit to voluntarily, but what the hell. Once the Mormons came to the door and asked if I'd heard about them and I said yes. They asked where, and I didn't really know, but after they left I thought - Damn! I should have said, when I was 12 I had a crush on Donny Osmond and read absolutely everything about him in the teen magazines. *LOL* Typical though, I thought of the comeback line after I needed it.

BP, I think there were a lot of "closet" Donny Osmond fans. It wasn't cool to admit you liked him back then! Gosh the memories you brought up with that teen magazine comment! Tiger Beat was my absolute favorite magazine and I bought it every time a new one came out. My walls were covered with pictures that I taped EVERYWHERE! LOL

Well the time it took to comprise an update I spent hammering my head with one of the better lyrical electronic artists (IMO) ... Having spent too much time playing host and promoter for these guys I still get a little surprised when I hear good vocal work. VNV Nation is not tops in some ways but they are darned good.
So I'm stuck on two songs in a loop right now from Form + Matter:
ENDLESS SKIES w/lyrics ...
Perpetual --- just pretty, lyrics on main video page:

Moby's fast and dirty top ten tracks from 2011. Ten tracks via some form of imbedded player on his journal/blog thing ... **EDIT: Right-click reveals they are all embedded YouTube video players in small. Didn't realize you could do that. (./me scrambles off to see how to code/do that now ...) LINKAGE

I am taking a break from house cleaning, and while browsing through PDN Fans decided to add to this thread. I'm listening to Darkness, Darkness by The Youngbloods from 1969, I think. It's Blue Grass meets Rock, and I never get tired of it. Here is a LINK if you wish to try it. Other oldies in this playlist are: Easy Living - Uriah Heep; Fresh Garbage - Spirit; Just For Love - Quicksilver MS; and Wooden Ships - Jefferson Airplane.

The Blender Podcast . It`s interesting to hear how Blender is developing and what features are due for inclusion. Boring to most people but not to me. (wouldn`t it be nice if we had a PDN Podcast? )

Sid Vicious and My Way is a lil' bit different. Not boring mate. I think it's called dedication to learning/ improving. I need to sort out my shuffle list ... Gone from Sid to Marty Robbins and Streetsof Laredo ... a lil' bit depressing, but great inspiration music

Marty Robbins - very cool. Reminds me of the Saturday shift in the kitchen at the boys' college where I worked as a youngster with a woman who would have been in her late fifties back then. Sadly she passed. Kenny Rogers, Marty Robbins & Charlie Pride. We laughed, we sang, we danced & we worked damn hard. I never got into Sid, or never really got him but hubby has explained to me a lot. There is a whole generation difference between the two of us but only 7 years. Sometimes it shows. Gen X with a Baby Boomer who is strongly influenced by the Builders. Gen differences are also apparent with my younger sister - definitely Gen X. In general it is hard to listen to something like a podcast for something you dont have the lexicon in though ... Though once you have half a clue what people are talking about, that makes perfect sense to seek that out. Feed your mind ... it's healthy. @bbq: One man's Elvis is another's Sid ... ;D Nice combo approach BBQ. I just wish my music tastes didn't span so far ... earlier today it was Big Band all the way. Little taste of some pre-jazz hayday stuff and even some glory day swing circa 1920's up through 1940's war music ... Then I washed it down with some dubstep covers of some of them to not feel older than I really am. Yes, there are some truly demented people out there. aside: Most of the dubstep stuff basically degrades quickly though. Very few and far between good compositions there. Sad really. Some people just think they need "the drop" more than a good medium and then push it too far. Doesn't matter how much bass reproduction you have available, it turns into distortion over form. Sort of like some of the junk 240+ bpm stuff from the 90's. Neat for about 30 seconds, but not enough to carry them for 12 minutes ... Still patiently waiting to see what else bubbles to the top from this current trend. Like this Nancy Sinatra Bang Bang cover turned dubstep ... Not too bad at first. Almost works ... then just doesn't come full circle. Still, if you are into interesting music covers of a slightly different age this is maybe worth a listen to illustrate the concept or easier to appreciate. Haven't found one of Cher doing it "stepped on" though ... but I prefer the Sinatra cover anyways, so *shrug*:

Argh, I love the song but I should have known better than to fire it up. It's stuck in my head again ... about 47 plays now ... hopefully I get it out before I break the 100 mark. I think all the reference jokes to Batman's Joker for this guy sometimes are very apt ... And I figured I needed to take the joke to heart last night. So today I'm definitely embracing the idea of being looped like a side track. "Why so Sirius?" <-- joke reference. I guess I should mention that this is music in the abstract in many ways. Voices are clipped, dont try and understand it. If you think you want a really strange experience pull up the official video for it ( LINK for Einmal In Der Woche Schreien) Static image video clip:

Just spending time on following some recommended items from selections again ...
Today I'm stuck on a similar remix concept where the voices seem to get smeared in the combination. Though at least its base is English so I'm more likely to pick out the lyrics from the original in the clipped voice approach used here.
Mellow, down-tempo Opera-style remix of I am Not a Robot by Marina and The Diamonds ...

Joy Division is just one of many great things from not only that era but that collection of musical influences. Must be something in the water there.
New Order was an example of art during a time of consumerism. Rare for the time in so many ways. I often ponder what they would have done with other technology and it seems like we get to see that some with the re-grouping ... but what drove the lyrics and such from that time cannot be captured now, or again.
The only other uncompromised artists from that era that are a huge influence to my concept of what I find in music is probably Art of Noise. Again, with the sampling capabilities of today versus what they did then ...
On the theme of clipped music, I dove in Pogo's work again ... Not a fan of his basic composition, but he does manage to get Disney to leave him alone somehow.
If you aren't familiar, here's one of the more recent recombinant works, Wishery - a re-sampling of Disney's Snow White ... it is clever in its own way. Maybe this really is how my head works. Loops on loops of memory re-amplified ... *shrug* Still trying to puzzle out why I fall in love with the bastardization of iconic things.

Awesome!
As WB would say, I applaud your choice Lief. IMHO: Outside of a few classics, most people dont appreciate Bowie as much as they should. Sure, he might be a little crazy, but a wonderful artist with some timeless music ... I'll skip all the strange fashion he went into of course. Never judge a book by its face paint and glitter as it were. ;D

Bowie has always been a creative artist. Meaning you didn't always understand him at first. But if you take the time to listen you realize he makes great music. And his performance in the movie Labyrinth, is impressive.

Awesome! As WB would say, I applaud your choice Lief. Not quite mate. You forgot the words Fricking Excellent Choice Keeping on the Welsh theme www.youtube.com/watch?v=51GuG6N2qHE&ob=av3nand these songs because I was there in Morfa Stadium that night. The best gig I've ever been to. Also one of the strangest outcomes (personally) ;D R.I.P. Gary Speed. For services to Football and most importantly to your pride in your heritage x
