Helen - Thank you. I'm really pleased people are enjoying what I was telling myself was a lot of "drivel" ... I've really got to work on this self esteem thing. @bbq - I'm glad you commented on that. I recall several decades ago that I both amused and angered an artist by liking his floor droppings. Clay work in this case. He had a piece explode in his kiln and I like it over any of his other work. Needless to say he was only amused because I was a child. He did seem rather put off overall. And that was the last time I was allowed in the back of that place come to think of it. This is really the first time I've shared art (or spent much on creating it) and had to be on the receiving end (potentially) of feedback. I've spent thousands of hours at festivals and galleries and offered honest feedback. And being the empathic sort, its odd that I never really considered much how hard it must be to display this stuff to a general public. Let alone to seasoned artists. One trick I've been trying to remember to use is taking a screen shot of my history and pasting it into a blank layer on my work so I can recreate things (or at least come close). If its more complex I take a shot of the tool settings and add those in as well. But like you say, its hard to remember to do that when you get in the zone. I found it was easier than trying to take other forms of notes overall. Worse case is I use a really long name like "inversion times two plus fire plus curves over iris equals this.pdn" ... I feel you on the storms as well. I lose my internet rather frequently as I live on the water and nearly on an island of sorts. And being that I rely on my internet for work etc, this is always troublesome. And one more thought since I just realized, just now, OMG, that's spooky ... My current signature... That does come as an actual reflection of me at this time. I live on the water. I get to see diffused clouds all the time. It's one of the few things I can stare at to make up for not living near mountains anymore ... And the stone texture is my inflexible mental nature on so many levels. Including my preconceptions about not being an "artist" ... Yes, I know this sounds like a "bong smoke" discovery, but I assure you that's a completely sober glimmer. Well that was cool. Thanks for the mental kick start. ;D

@wb - Much appreciated. Sincerely. Like I mentioned above, the hero worship can be a problem and feeling like a petulant child has been plaguing me some. Or feeling as though I am merely a child looking for approval from their elders as it were. I know that ya'll spend a lot of time going through all sorts of work on the main forums etc. I've been trying in vain not to think I'd be wasting your mutual time by posting this or that. I'm sure my next phase is the questions. Though I'm used to people throwing "google it" and "RTFM" at me so much I've opted to wait until I had more focused inquiries. Which is bad, because the adage about unasked questions is usually correct. Even if the answer is RTFM. Sometimes simply asking the question out load finds the answer ... An image you post is never a waste of anyones time. I love seeing how people improve from image to image and where I can, offer Wows or a lil' critique. The answer to any question is only easy if you know it ... ask away, mate. We all had to start somewhere and I'll always be indebted to Oma, Ash and LFC' for all their advice when I started. As I am now for the support and critique that comes my way. I don't mind admitting that the quality of your images; far exceed my early postings. You don't have to worry about being seen as a petulant child - I'm sure I'll always beat you to that one ;D I'm glad you fixed the link to IceStorm ... that definitely deserves to be viewed. I love the randomness and the symmetry of it (oxymoron much ?) A small suggestion ... maybe lower the opacity on some of the white and black bits towards the front ? Not sure why I'm saying that because I love it like it is Post as many images as you want ... I'm always more than happy to look at them to unwind @ the end of the day If it's posted it deserves to be looked at

I saw these earlier in the week but didn't have time to comment as there are so many worth commenting on. I can't pick and absolute favorite... Falling Iris is simply amazing. It has great depth, and the colors are very mesmerizing. Cavern is beautiful. There's something about water reflections that always appeals to me. For some reason it's calming for me. Weird really, as I'm totally NOT an outdoor person. LOL Caves are fascinating to me as well so this one really caught my eye. Icestorm has such motion to it and the colors are perfect. I can't even begin to figure out how you did that one!! Iron desktop is another that really caught my eye. Beautiful texture and dimension. You are doing fantastic stuff with PDN. Of course all the others are great as well. Just thought I'd comment on the ones that grabbed my attention the most. Great seeing your work! Like everyone else says, post away. I love seeing everything by everyone. Something that seems not worth posting to you may end up being someone's favorite piece. If you took the time to make it, it's worth looking at.

@wb - Righto mate. I'll fire up the question generator. Including how I'd manage to make that specific color balance modification. That's one area I'm really struggling with controlling using this hammer and dynamite method. I'd imagine (gasp) that I'll have to learn how to use conditional hue/sat and the like to pull that off or some sort of gradient maybe. And thanks for re-affirming that I'm not spinning people's wheels. This is a rotten time of year for me overall (this and thats, bah humbug indeed) so I think I'm using PDN/and FANS a little as therapy too. Go figure. You're all now a support group. ;D venicet - No worries luv and thank you. I knew that was a lot at once. But I had to do it or never get caught up again. If that makes sense. Call it my inner hoarding instinct or something. Really glad you like the cavern. Its really calming to me as well and I'm trying to work on re-creating that as a style for about four different things including a space clouding effect (well, I'm doing it in my head while working, driving, etc. haven't actually used the 'mouse' yet on that ...) And thank you for the kind comments about my other postings in the other places. I should spam those with thank yous there, but I'm not sure how to do it without it sounding out of place or like a wanted hijack. Meh, forum ettiquete is a quagmire. Icestorm is again something done quick and without much thought. The background for instance was just there for contrast while I was working on it. I took my main pattern from the Ice Flake and simply wrapped it around an S3D sphere several times with one layer with shadows and a stronger arthroscopic light on it. That was a rough first draft of "seeing" the potential for making 3D art from other forms. It helps to have spent some time modeling in clay or other 3D in some ways. Main thing is having lots of alpha to know there will be a hole. Similar to how the abstract that YM/Sargon uses as a base. A little reverse, but same idea of using alpha spaces to gear the layering. Oddly enough one thing I can do (even with really weird vision) is guage 3 dimensions fairly well. I'm wonderful at packing a suitcase for instance. Or a shelf with cans, etc. Or a database chart ... ;D Though I have a rough time making a blank box turn into a cloud. Once the scale changes I lose my aspect on it. Dunno. I think I can overcome this if I keep analyzing the small parts of larger works etc. I have a feeling this will allow me to break that barrier that always makes me wonder how anyone can draw on even something like 11x14 inch paper. or 28x35.5 cm paper for the rest of you ( ) ... @all - On a side note, I ran by the store today to buy a picture frame for a piece of work I need to create before Sunday to make a gift from my art. I'm that confident in being able to either re-hash or make something. Regardless of what it may be, it will be 100% unique and original. I even bought a sketch pad and some new graphite ... first time in literally 19 years that I've done that. This really has inspired me some. Plus I'm running out of ideas so I figured this would at least be personal. I know, I'm getting all mushy like maybe. But I think its a good thing. Who knows. Maybe my hands are like many other things. A decade here, a decade there ... never know what they may have learned. Or how I may have rewired some things.

So does a comment such as "spins my wheels" mean something bad? If I say that image spins my wheels or floats my boat - it mean that it really does it for me as in makes me really happy.
Your works & comments spin my wheels because while I don't necessarily agree with you on everything, I enjoy the long (meant in a nice way) explanations & thoughts because that is usually my communication style too ;D Like your thoughts on your sig. I enjoyed reading that you could see that & let's face it, only you could know that.
Delpart, conditional hue/saturation won't work on black or white. Dynamite ok, thanks for that! Now I have ACDC stuck in my head! ;D
As for the support group, yeah mate, we always knew that too *Giggle*
Many of us have turned to more traditional art since beginning with PDN either back again or as a new venture with wonderful results. I've thought about buying a canvas & paints. I stand there & look but end up walking away. My mother does the most amazing landscapes but really isn't that good at still life (according to her) but I have some of her darker still lifes & I think they are wonderful. Perhaps I am afraid of trying to use canvas when hubby & Mum can use it so well. I know part of the problem is that there is no undo button ;D I am pleased you are trying new methods & I hope that maybe you can show us the results. We are always happy to see art in any form not just PDN ;D

Um, I don't know where to start. I'll have to take more time later to look at everything. The ones that really caught my eye are Falling Iris and Ice Kelp. I like the colours and shapes in them. I've thought about playing with my watercolours and inks, but I know I'll just have stacks of papers on every available surface. I did play with the coloured pencils I bought a couple of months ago, but nothing more than scribbling and doodling. Here, there's no cleanup involved, and I make a huge mess no matter what I do.

Sorry I'm late to the party ;D WoW! Your latest pieces are really spectacular. Falling Iris looks very 'Apopyhyis-like', which is a hard thing to do. I also like the result of Cavern and, my fave is the Planet ...... Fantastic results

@bbq - I wish I'd know it was a support group. I would have brought cookies. ;D @bpenny - Thank you. Yeah, the impulse is odd but I have to test the waters again. Worse case scenario is to at least do fast block-ins if I think of something. Can be stick figures for all that, as long as I dont forget something I may have thought of. I'll probably do just a little to remind myself about not being able to match curves left and right side, parallel problems, up-sweeping lines to the right, and all that again ... partially from vision and that missing gene that makes hands do these things ... or maybe I am now more patient to learn from these tools to influence the other. Not sure really. My first fast sketch is horrid in some ways. But I think using a child's colored pencil that is only 3 inches long didn't help that. But it was the closest thing while I was waiting on a remote session that was tying up my cpu ... I will probably try and do the scan and manipulate, even on that one come to think of it. Worse case is it will be like when I start with a single gradient and turn it into something like Falling Iris. Cause technically, Falling Iris is only two circle gradients smashed into those two layers ... Pixey- Thank you. I'm still happy you all like them as well. And of course, you mentioned the fractal generator that I've been essentially gearing to imitate in some ways here and there. While its silly to some, I find great joy (yes, actual joy) in smashing these things into fractal like impressions. Which means they really are fractals to some degree. Like when you use Radial Blur Deluxe. Those loop backs actually are fractals based on how the math works. ... I guess thats the paint brush I really want. Mandelbrot based on pressure ... With full 3D positioning. Yeah, that's probably up someone's sleeve. I cant be the only person who wants animated like brushes. Or better yet animated brushes influence by the music currently streaming or other random factors .... Hrm. Maybe I just found some inner spark again. I'll post something up here in a few. I've had less time and got OCD on the bubbles thing again. I made a neat splash of water but not what I was looking for. And I'm still working on my moon rise concept picture or something for a present. Tick-tock. And my insomnia took leave of me, or the need for sleep caught up with me the last several days. One or the other, I can never tell.

Sorry to be so late to comment, I spent today an hour just jumping from image to image in your new collection, amazing mate how fast you are growing, if somebody see your first collection, can't believe the second one came from same artist, I enjoyed all of them, and saw some new style of 3D effect, there is more depth and more steps and effects involved. You may be surprised and say why, but My cloud, Ice kelp, Perlin star and Ice storm are my favorite among them, they my look simple but they suit my taste. Great work delpart, I am not sure what kind of bubbles you are trying to achieve, but I know Displacement or Alpha Displacement plugins both could generate a very good effect of bubbles.

@ Sargon III - Thank you so much for taking that much time. It was a lot. So far I've not done much this last week or so, but that's this holiday for me. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nothing is late in a forum format. ;D The idea is to have it up there for people to come to. Unlike instant messaging and chat rooms, this does make it possible to drop in when you have time and still be in the mix. Much like some coffee shops I can think of ...
And I'm not finding it surprising at all in what people find to like now that I've had a chance to ponder it some more. I think like most getting hung up on our own favorites because of a lot of underlying emotions and other conditional things makes us not appreciate our own achievements or look at them from the right angle.
RE: Bubbles. Mainly I want to help add that step to make large bubbles for WB's tutorial. I've gotten some ideas from displacement etc. but nothing that works as a "formula" per se to create a quick effect. I realize not all effects need to be quick, and most of the good ones really do require a lot, but ... the tutorial is quick and intriguing, so I'm pushing along those lines.
Made a water splash that is neat but I'm even having trouble getting that to work right consistently.

Well I hate to double post in my own gallery but update on 4th of Jan, 2012 ...
A little of this and that. Couple of failed projects here and there in the mix. Most of what is in this push is just stuff since the last I had in various stages of pondering what to do with them.
The avatar update was needed. I wasn't happy with either of the others I was using. Sort of got the effect I wanted. Still not sure about coloring it more or not. I got sick of looking at it today/yesterday so just ran with it in the gray form.
I guess I should name some of these etc. Just not sure on most of them what they really are. Though if you look at the URL's, you'll see that they do have names of a sort. ;D
Happy New Year everyone.

I like the way you experiment. It's fun seeing the different things you can get from one effect. I especially like the metal one. The Radial Blur Deluxe pieces are cool too.

What you've done with Radial Blur is stunning. The smoke effect is amazing because it looks so real. I wonder if you can make a "smoke" face like this using the same steps: HERE

Helen, that looks quite interesting.
Delpart, Radial Blur is a fave of mine too. The Blood Flow one is superb! I also like the blue one a lot. Sometimes you can re-use these to make new images using overlay blend modes to get some interesting effects. I like to see experiments from people.

@ BP - Thanks for taking a gander. GF goaded me into pushing some stuff up and I'm glad he did. Its not quite the same as physical print but it seems to liberate the art from my desktop to the world ... sort of like setting little digital birds free. (Yes, that's what I thought based on your reply.) Helen - Hrm, that is intense. I'm wondering now if I did that with radial blur or not. I think I may have saved that in the wrong folder ... But the holiday being what it was, Radial influenced the creation and origin of that piece. I'm looking into the tutorial as soon as I can pull up that site. My connection is still ****ed right now. DNS issue so I cant even pull up things like Yah00 right now. I'm willing to dig a little deeper for sure. I just have to turn off the OCD when approaching this sort of thing. I was rather surprised by the smoke outcome as it was different than how Sargon showed how to do it ... I think it was blunt force trauma using Fire and Splinter Blur. I'll have to go zen on it for a few to recall. Hrmmm, it was buldge pushed lines with some replication and flip flops maybe and then ... argh. I'll revisit this in that other thread or create a started for it. Helen - Thanks so much. I've spun a lot of simple lines into new things plus I'm hoping to build a nice personal library of "stocks" from all this meandering. I'm still happily surprised by what I'm generating. Now I just need a new system as my overclocked dual core E6000 series just isn't cutting the mustard with the canvas size I like ... For a geek, I'm starting to show my age by not upgrading every year like I used to ... outside of the family, moving, etc issues that came into play. Which reminds me I need to order a new video card. I'll risk replacing that to get the better blurs. On another note I was pretty sure I keep seeing things ya'll have done in where I meander with this and that. Its a strange evolution and I'm still happy with the simplest of things. Then I keep thinking I need to be making photo-realism images and falter some. Hallmark of OCD in a way. I want to be 1000 days down the road right now and I realize I'm just here and now. Ack, this lack of sleep is starting to get to me. I'll stop blathering now.

Great new stuff delpart, I agree, the FLOOD_FLOW is awesome, I think Outline "Stylize" is involved in it. But your new avatar is something else, excellent example on how to manage the light/shadow to get a believable 3D effect, well done mate.

Now how many times did I want to comment on your avvie & got side-tracked??
I really like it a lot because it is smooth & classy. I used to think they were set in stone but I realise now that you can change it if you feel like it. I guess that is the thing with our learning journey & PDN...as we learn we can change things.
I love the carved, chiseled look. I think they call that something but I don't know. A very fine example of 3D work.

@sargon: Thanks. I spent way too long tweaking but re-learned about opposite shadowing to create indents so I think it was worth it. All it takes is a simple flip and that goes from pillow indents to raised letters. Of course if you stare at this one long enough they can raise up a little as well, but its much more difficult which means I got it right. And yup, outline helps create smoke like effect for sure. Come to think of that I'm still stuck trying to mimic that Neon look from Picnik. It's clever but with the single pass filtering they use its impossible to match 100% for me atm. @bbq: Thanks for remembering. Again, like I just said I spent way to long on that but I came really close to the effect I wanted. Stone letters sitting on a pillow like surface. Now getting the letter to be more metal or stone like would have been nice but I can revisit it. Identity on forums is hard to deny. Changing your avi's and sigs too often makes it hard to track. But, change is good. Like website design, sometimes slower changes from the norm are best. The look on the letters I got carried away with. Went for a hard chiseled stone like approach instead of rounded to try and offset the shadowing I had in mind. I'm not sure what besides embossed really fits either. Again, those are thanks to Sargon's shield tutorial being used. Though I did have to learn to use recoloring tool to get rid of some artifacts from the splinter to get that level of relief. Gaps in the letters cause problems. Hence, part of the time vacuum. And to be fair, I've evolving so I figured I needed to reflect that refinement some. Plus my initials for this persona work well to make a nice button/logo. Signature I'm sticking with for a spell as it just works. Though I do have a warning below to cover the eventual change up. Helen: Try I will and soon. Well as soon as I stop getting distracted from my attempts at a competition entry. I've got three different visions in my head and having a horrible time making them go away so I can just commit something to ink ...

Great new additions. All with great effects and textures going on, making them interesting. My top 3 are Blood Flow (I'd love to do something with this) Splash A very neat effect and Radial Core Love the moodiness of this piece. Your avatar ... love it. Very nicely bevelled

@wb - Thanks for going through the lot.
Feel free to borrow since I posted them as full res as a png allows.
1680x1050 to match my 16x10 ratio, 24 inch monitor in case you were wondering why they seemed oddly sized. Or for that matter, in case anyone else sees this comment and had wondered why I keep picking that size ... Or for those who simply like to see numbers in sentences and cant get enough of reading comments on an art forum ...
