Indeed. Salutations and another notch in the belt WB. (Though based on the rants, I meant this in different manner ... ;D )
@bp: That's one very happy cake.

@sargon: Yes and no. Its a cultural ritual of sorts. Since it can be a point in time to mark progress and reflect on the joys of life I dont think it is all bad. But just like Christmas and such, it can be overblown into a silly focus on the wrong things by many.
I've known some people due to religion etc that do not at least have a rough acknowledgment of their birthday. Since it is one of those times you can be recognized by the world at large for even existing in a sea of vast numbers, I think they are missing the point. Not exactly vanity or ego. But feeding those two things can be healthy for a person. Kills the solitary feeling that life seems to lump on us.
On a funny note, a friend of mines mother stated her son's birthday was a huge deal because every year he tries to kill himself in one way or another. (Ah, dont think of suicide folks, he's just impulsive.) So marking yet another successful year of trying to keep him grounded and thankful that he's still with us all.
Of course, that could be done everyday or on some other event or religious holiday I suppose. But to a parent like this, that point she saw him come into the world is the milestone. And his zest and love for life just means he's more like to say "Why not?" before jumping into something versus a lot of serious concerns over this and that. (He's just an adrenaline junky really. Will do anything for that thrill of knowing he's alive ... right now. He laughs at the idea of the birthday as well. Says he feels like that everyday ...)
I know that has to be translated. I hope my little side story here makes sense mate.

I never celebrate my birthday, do you guys really enjoy it? Mine was memorable this year ... Go to work when everyone is still in bed. Get totally soaked/ freezing cold, all day. Stuck in traffic on the way home. Get home late because of it. My daughter stays in a friends house, my wife out on a hen-night. My son god knows where because he never answers his phone ... So I didn't see a soul But after a hot bath, a Chinese take-away, an 8 box of Stella Artois and peace and quiet except for my tunes ... it wasn't such a bad day. Especially when I had the latest Lady Gaga and a Suede cd to open when I got home ;D Many thanks for the best wishes folks, I thought I'd said so ... next time I'll do it before starting on the Stella'

Since they're relevant to "us" a separate thread in Off-topic would work for me. Shooting the breeze I sort of expect to be semi random/rant etc. Or really just the catch-all ... And these are separate from "Forum Announcements" ... Almost suggested to sub them there but that wouldn't apply to catch "all personal announcements/achievements/hooplas"
With as much potential for DA things, etc it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a new top level topic for this ...
The logic of forums is sometimes like herding cats though IME ... Whatever works is what works. (Not trying to be cyclic, just mentioning the idea that some forums literally are arranged by "Fun stuff" , "Serious stuff" , and "Other stuff" - literally. and it works for those folks.)
Moving some threads is fairly safe as long as they're not linked elsewhere. proboards works by thread numbers, so in theory, it's safe anyways ... (I looked very briefly on that with the idea of suggesting a tutorial move or misplaced posting move to see what sort of impact it *could* have ... nothing worse than a dead link from somewhere else and all that.)
Uhg, birthday thread turned into a Board Meeting (omg, now thats some serious pun twist - insert some genuine lol here from me ;D ).
