Nifty. If their site wasn't being so slow I could run errands in between clicks, I'd be able to compare with what the motivation is to promote such.
Not knocking it, just saying I'm frustrated that I cant poke around their site atm. as I didn't associate the name with Bryce or Carrara immediately.

None of the daz3d links work at all. Looks like the site might have had a major meltdown?
Arrggghhhh! miss out. Thanks for sharing just the same Welshy. I will keep trying.
EDIT: Now got into it. Keep trying folks if you don't get in.

My connection has been hinky all day Very unusual because it's usually 100% reliable. It cut off before Hexagon downloaded. I've got the other 2 to play around with but so far any other programme other than PDN that has managed to capture my imagination is Incendia

Tried to download Bryce but all I got was a very slow website and eventually it just timed out. Like you say Welshy, it`s too good an opportunity to miss but I think lots of other people think the same. Thanks anyway.

Well it does appear we may have some time to grab them:
"Sale Price: $0.00
Save 100% through 02/29/2012"
And it looks like they are hoping to bet that people will want to spend, say $12.95 on a texture pack ... could be a fire sale to hope generate any level of revenue.
As long as its not the game model of nickel and diming you to death.

Goonie I had a horrible time but got there in the end for at least the ones Welshy listed. I had to create an account.
So glad that at least one other person in this world know the word "hinky". My doctor nearly died laughing when I used this to explain how my hand felt after the electric shock.

I created the account , started to download Bryce, then had second thoughts and stopped the download and deleted all the e-mails then logged out. It might be too good to miss but what a palaver to get to there. I just got put right off. Also I don`t need more programs to learn. Getting to learn Blender is quite enough for me.

Well I tried the Hex & got nada...not even a dot ont he screen ;D but your work with Blender inspires me to try new things. Still have to do something useful in Chaoscope again. Patty got the hang of Mandelbulb so I might try new ways of working. PDN will always be my mainstay.

3D Studio is really cool. You can make some pretty cool figures. I've only had a lil' while on it and I like it. One small drawback - it's crashed on me a few times. I know nothing about computers but possibly my PC isn't powerful enough ?

Free is free. I see where they are headed now with the offer. Basically Carrara is the ultimate combination tool and they're hoping to make something off of the previous development by people willingly spending to purchase textures, models, etc.
This has worked for a few other rendering softwares. The base is free, the add-ons are purchased in a market place, and are often created by the users ...
Its a good model in some ways. Anything that keeps the market full of choices means good things for all.
On a side note, most of the modern modeling environments really are going to push your machine like a modern game would. Doesn't matter if its from Autodesk or the wonderful stone soup group effort of Blender ... You will find that every single upgrade of your hardware unlocks features you weren't even aware of.
(I've helped people on the hardware/setup side enough to have experienced a lot of "OMG, I have to spend how much to do what with this???" over the years. Especially with the Autodesk crowd. Funny thing is they'll spend 45 thousand US per seat on the software, but scream bloody murder on a 5 thousand US server to offset the rendering ... Go figure.)

Thank goodness I got a powerful machine...everyone said it was overkill. You can never have too much computing power unlike politicians & motorcars... ;D Not bad outcome Welshy. I think though that the models look like stuffed dolls. Easy to fix maybe? A few distorts, & do something about those staring dead eyes ;D I still gotta get my head around it but at the moment busy with family/garden

In issue 153 of 3D World magazine they are giving away Victoria 5 (worth $39) on the disc. I think you will have to buy the mag to get her though. www.3dworldmag.com/Just thought all you new Daz 3D newbies would be interested.

OMG, barbie you made me chuckle on the stuffed dolls ;D, please Welsy don't get offended I am just laughing at the moment when I first read barbies reply, and having same feeling whenever I see it or read the text again, it came so direct and sweet from barbie. I downloaded the DAZ Studio from C|NET to avoid the registration for now, but didn't instal it yet, may be it will ask later for the registration, but not sure if it is the Pro version or not. I saw some videos on the net, it is so powerful 3D program, really too good to miss thanks for the info welshy.
