I was looking through the latest program updates on Computeractive forum and I came across one for a browser called Waterfox 10. It is made by Mozilla and is a version of Firefox specifically compiled to be used on 64 bit computers. They say it`s faster as a result - and they are right! Graphic intensive webpages that previously took some time to finish loading load in a flash. I have been particularly impressed with the improvement in speed loading You Tube and the BBC iPlayer. Also because it is made by Mozilla it uses your FF profile when installing so you don`t have to bookmark all your favourite websites all over again or install your plug ins and extensions. I highly recommend it, but remember you can only use it with 64bit systems. If you have a 32bit one you are out of luck. Here is the link if you fancy trying it out - waterfoxproject.org/downloads/

Let's pretend I'm an idiot for a moment. How does one find out if their system is 64bit? I know I've done it before, but I don't remember how.

@bp - Here you go:
If you are using Windows 7, click Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> System. The System type: line will give you the Operating System type:

I use Google Chrome Because it is faster. Sounds like this is comparable. Might also go a long way to explain why hubby's pc is ever so slow, even with the obvious age & lack of RAM. My dislike of Microsoft products esp. IE is legendary. I'm sure my boss wants to slap me for this because he says that is the market leader & one has to go with the flow. The old techie we had loved me. Now the boss knows why the techie always took my calls & fixed my stuff pronto. I've never met him. All done via VNC. Not Microsoft's remote access. ;D Anyway when the boss was up here recently, he wanted to use my staff pc. He asked me why IE was not there on the system. Seriously - how should I know, I never use it. Poor boss was so upset that he couldn't find IE. I will give the Waterfox a shot. Here's me thinking (hoping) for another user-friendly art program Thanks so much Goonie!

Thanks Pixey. I still have XP and system properties doesn't tell me anything. I know I've seen it somewhere - I'll get it figured out.
Edit: I Googled. It doesn't exactly say it in system properties, but my system is 32-bit. Oh well.

I didn't think that it made much difference to my system using Fire or Water fox. Chrome still faster but does not work with all sites. Hence I have to have a couple of browsers.

Well I have certainly noticed a difference. I guess a lot of it is down to the spec of your machine as well ( CPU, RAM etc...). I have read that it makes virtually no difference to some people, but they are few and far between. Most of the comments I have read have been positive.
It`s always worth just trying it out anyway.

Ah, yes, that would explain it. Still it is pretty cool & worth sharing.
