I just tried to get to the main forum but keep getting this message - What is going on? Is this my fault or a serious bug in the new forum update? The latter I suspect. But how do I get around it? Has anyone else had this problem?

I get the same. Looks to me as if the main forum has either grown to big a database, or has to many uses, so it uses more server resources then expected (payed for?)

Thanks Leif. At least I know it`s not me anyway. I hope they sort this out. No point in having a forum you can`t use. Ever since the `upgrade' from the old version there have been problems . It`s ironic that my gallery over there is smaller than it`s ever been and has not been updated for quite a while.

Looks like it's up and running again.

I am getting the same message at 2:41 p.m. CDT.
Also, the PDN forum looks completely different. It has all the same divisions, but it looks cleaner, without all the dividing lines it used to have.

It`s up and running again. I noticed that Rick refused a banner comp request on the main site. Long live Fans and the freedom we have to change the forum.

Goonie, one of the biggest mistakes is to think that the main forum is a democracy. It is not. At any given time Rick could pull the plug on the whole thing. Then what? Where would that leave Fans? I'd like to think that this forum would continue.

Long live Fans and the freedom we have to change the forum. ... and that will never change. I've been flat out away from the pc the past couple of weeks, with no sign of things letting up for a month or so but I've a few things I want to try on my test board to make this place look aesthetically a bit trendier without going overboard with graphics which may slow the board down ... but anything I try will always go to the vote and the other Admins/Mods will have the deciding say in the event of a hung jury. How's about another competiton to run concurrently with this one ? A set of menu buttons for the default skin plus another for the ebony skin. (There's a few changes I want to make to the red skin ... then maybe we can have a comp for that ?)

I think I like the idea Welshy, if that is not too much work on you.

Yeh, sounds good to me. Of course it would be handy to know about any size restrictions with the buttons but I guess we`ll learn that if there is a comp. I like the idea of the red one being tweaked as well. But as Sargon said - only if it`s not too much work. We wouldn`t want you to get PDNforumitis ! ;D

I experienced a lot of trouble on the main forum yesterday with updating my avatar. As did another who posted as such and got this reply from Ego Eram Reputo: Try again. We've just upgraded the forum software and you may have just had some bad timing. One thing I've noticed since opening a gallery over there, other than all of you on here, is that nobody bothers to stop and comment

Pixey, it's so weird because when I go on there everything works. I hope things will straighten out sooner or later.

One thing I've noticed since opening a gallery over there, other than all of you on here, is that nobody bothers to stop and comment I`ve noticed the same thing. It`s generally the guys from this forum that comment over there. It`s one of the reasons I reduced the size of my gallery and concentrate my efforts here. Its so much friendlier. If it`s the server issues to blame for the problems then I guess we`ll just have to tough it out until things are sorted. These things happen I guess. It would have been nice if someone over there had told all the members what was going on though, instead of assuming we all go and read Rick`s blog on a regular basis.

I'm sticking to my gallery here because it's a smaller group and I'm more comfortable. If I open one on the main forum, I'd feel like I have to comment on everyone else's work, and there's so many. Besides, I have a new volunteer job with the calligraphy guild - receiving registrations for workshops and making up the class lists. So it'll keep me a little bit busier than I was before. This morning I had a flurry of emails because an upcoming class was cancelled. The benefit is I have advance knowledge of what workshops are coming up and can add myself to the list whenever I want. There's one coming up in a couple of weeks - Pencil Caps. Pencils are great - they're very portable and you can't spill them. And I really like the teacher, I've had her for a few classes before.

I can almost guess who'll comment in my gallery on the main board. Here too if I think about it.
But after all, we make our work for ourselves, if others like it ... bonus.
In the past I've thought about being as uncommunative as the majority on the main board, and only comment on those who bother - but that's not in my nature ... plus then I'd be a hypocrite after all the bemoaning about lack of support over there.
I guess it's all down to human nature ...

But after all, we make our work for ourselves, if others like it ... bonus. That's also the way i see it. Comments, faves, pageviews etc. DOSE matter. It matters a loot. But it is not really interesting to make just what others wants you to. Your heart has to be in it.
