The WIP already looks good. You're using Photoshop to create this image, I see. What method are you using to blend in the shadows and highlights?

The posture is reminiscent of old masters works. I like how you have the palette there too. Of course, having dark hair for an angel is always a winner with me What an honour to do a painting for a sibling! They are often our harshest critics. Well done AFG!

@ Helen: I will probably be using three different methods on this painting
1. Soft Round Brush: this allows me too mix the blend colours, I lower the opacity and flow of the brush to around 50% and sample the colours then mix the two together, I then sample this colour and repeat the process till I have a smooth transition between colours.
2. Custom Made Blending Brush: this works a bit like a splatter brush except it is more controlled and helps create smooth transitions between colours, it is also great for creating skin textures.
3. Blending Layer: this is a bit like a correction layer where I can make adjustments, use sampled colours and generally refine areas without affecting the overall painting, that way if I make a mistake I can erase it easily.
@ Barbieq: I sometimes wonder if she is my sister or my mother, I didn't need a conscience as a child, I had a younger sister instead ;D

I'm sure you'll do your sister proud.
The same as I'm a big believer that people like your sister should be getting MBE's ... not the sports/ music/ media industries. It's a sad fact that hospices rely on the goodwill of the public in the UK
... I'll willingly put a tenner into the charity box of your choice when you finish it mate

This will be a great piece of art, thnks for letting us following the work progress with you , I like the tan effect on the skin, especially the face, looks so natural, not sure if you gonna keep it or tone it down, but I like the current color very much. Great work mate, wondering how the background would be.!

oh wowee. Such rich, gorgeous skin tone. It doesn't get much better than the way you've painted the eye and eyebrow.
I read an article once where they were asking whether digital artists really are artists in the traditional sense ...
a picture paints a thousand words in reply to that

The skin is amazing, AFG. Beautiful work!
@welsh: Painting digitally is very much like doing it in real life, only, in my opinion, it's a little tougher.

Oh My Golly AFG - she just jumps from flat to really life-like in about the third shot down. It is truly incredible how she just glows and her skin is so luminescent ............ you are amazing and it's through your very first tutorial on your Dad, that got me interested in doing portraits. So interesting to see this unfold

Coming on nicely AFG. One thing I would change is the skin colour of the fairy. I feel she has a little too much of a suntan. I think she would better if she were a little paler in colour. More innocent I suppose. Not much else besides that. It`s looking superb.

@ Pixey: I hope my sister feels the same when she sees it @ Helen: I wanted to give it a feeling of peacefulness, somewhere all the cares and worries would disappear @ Ella: thanks @ BP: thanks @ Goonfella: totally agree, what I didn't want to do was give her the normal porcelain skin tones, but now she is sitting in the surroundings I can see the skin tone will need to be lightened
