Great tut Ella!
Just one question - in smudge you have a Paintbrush option, whereas I just have the default Soft Brush. Where did you get your Paintbrush from?

I think I got both soft brush and paintbrush with Smudge plugin, it was a while ago so I am not sure, let me see if i can find some info or maybe someone else can check if they have paintbrush too by default.

I know there is a selection of brushes on the main forum for use with the Custom Brushes plug in, but I don`t know it they would be compatible with Smudge.

Goonie, there is a little drop down box beside the "soft brush" from there you can choose the "paintbrush" & it looks like there is an option to add/remove brushes but I don't know how. I have never been able to us the custom brushes anyway.

I know, I`ve tried clicking on that but there is no Paintbrush, just the option to add/remove more brushes. Which is why I thought Ella had added hers. Maybe I`ll try re-installing the plug in and see what happens.
edit - I`ve completely re-installed all of Pyro`s plug ins with the very latest available (I think I was up to date but I did it anyway) but there is still only the one brush in Smudge. So Ella must have installed hers separately.

How very odd! I am 99.9% sure that I didn't add mine. I don't think I know how. Not sure if I even have Custom Brush Mini, but possibly I do. Why not ask Pyro on the main forum?

I do have Custom Brushes installed but there is no Paintbrush there. But if I look at the brushes dropdown menu in Smudge tool see how Soft Brush and Paintbrush have similar setup in menu so I am pretty sure I got it when I installed Smudge. You did post in main forums hope you get some help there .

The ice looks almost real.

First, I am so sorry for being absent for the last 3 weeks or so.
And secondly, Ella very good tutorial, with great result but you forgot to mention "also you have to have an artist hand movement" because I tried it but couldn't get the smudging part as smooth as your result, have you by any chance used a tablet pc or you did that just using a regular mouse?
BTW, Goonie, that "Paintbrush" is built-in in the old version of the Smudge plugin if I am not mistaken, because I still have it in the plugins list in the previous versions of PDN but it doesn't show in the smudge folder nor in the MiniBrush folder. If you like to have the older version of the smudge (Which is V 3.0.3742) I can send it to you, or post it here if it is legal to do that.
EDIT, never mind goonie I just red your reply in the official board to pyro.
Welshy, that is fantastic, I do remember that (or similar) very well.

No special equipment, actually I do it with my laptops touchpad. I never figured it might be hard but it might be because I work with it a lot . I just hold down the left button with one finger and pull lines with another finger on pad. You can try making the brush size bigger, notice the strength is also almost maximum, that helps.

Oh, with laptop pad, I think the lines are more controllable, have to try it tomorrow at work, thanks for the info.

Cool tutorial Ella!
In my version of Smudge, I have Soft brush, Circle-filled and Hard brush. I don't know if I added them myself or how they got there.

You can try with different brushes which works for you best, I used Paintbrush because the default brush gives too soft look i needed more defined lines.

My problem is keeping a steady hand. It`s great if you have a tablet but with a mouse I find it difficult to get those nice flowing smudges. Just have to keep trying I guess.

If you don´t have Paintbrush in Smudge or own paintbrush file or brush handy I added one possibilty you can try with to original tutorial.
