Yahoo! I found a plugin to add rotating banners. It would change every day rather than at random, but I think we can live with that.
I'll add it here after I see how it works on my test forum.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if this will lead to another banner comp like on the old site.

Maybe. If there are enough participants for a competition. To start with, I'll use four of the winners from the last comp. One has been removed. I don't know the Fans photobucket account so I've put the images in my imgur account. With this plugin you can have up to 31 banners, one for each day of the month. What I have in mind is whoever wants to make a banner can, and we'll put them all in the rotation. I trust everyone here to not make anything that looks really stupid, and even if they do, you only have to look at it for a day. Thoughts?

Let's hope this place livens up a bit then to make it worth your while.

Hopefully if people see changes happening they'll come around more. "If we build it, they will come."

I'd like to create a banner. That would be fun. I wish this place would be busy again.

Let's see if I can get this plugin working. I haven't seen it switch yet on my test forum, but that could be because I keep changing settings. So I'm going to leave it alone for a day or so and see what happens. There is another plugin for a different banner for each board, but I really want to use the rotating banners. I might have to actually ask for help. Heaven forbid!

Okay, the rotating banner thing isn't working, but I found another plugin for random banners. I think it's he same as we had before, and I put our four banners back in. I am making progress. If you notice any glitches, let me know. I've been tinkering with settings and may have missed one or two. Or twenty.

Yeah, I see it on my (new) 24" screen in IE, but not on my 17". Thanks Ella. I don't use Google Chrome at all. And I'm getting my new computer set up - haven't even installed Firefox or PDN yet. For now, I've disabled the banners for the default theme so the whole world doesn't have to see I'm an idiot . Forum members can deal with it while I figure it out.

Okay, I'm working on it but it's not entirely fixed. I had made the banners all the same length with transparent backgrounds, and changed the width to 200px. I've restored the originals from the competition at 250px width. They are centered, but they repeat across the page. This is how they look on my screen. On a wider screen you'll see more of the banner at the ends. Not perfect but a bit better than it was before. I'm still looking for a way to have them look 'normal'.

Definitely a dimension problem. If you could create a banner with a center graphic and transparency on both sides, I think that should, in theory, take care of it.

Got the same on my screen. BUT i am also using an old 1280 X 1024. That may be it.

No it`s not just you Leif, my new 15" laptop shows the same problem. I`m sure BP will get on top of it. Trev`s idea sounds interesting.

Definitely a dimension problem. If you could create a banner with a center graphic and transparency on both sides, I think that should, in theory, take care of it. That's how I had the banners before, when Ella saw the problem on her screen. Maybe I didn't have them wide enough? If anyone can figure out a good width that would take care of it, I would appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll be doing calculations, and I can be ponderously slow when it comes to numbers. Trevor, if you want to do some adminning again, I have no objection. I feel like some of this stuff is a bit over my head, especially when it becomes more advanced. I can learn it, but it will take some time.

Appreciate the offer, but don't want to admin things again. Can you point me to the code you got this from?
Edit: The only banner that works without the wrapping of graphics is the one made by BarbieQ25. It was set at 1,000 px by 250 px, and the rest seem to have varying width, which confirms my thought it is definitely a dimension problem.
So, my suggestion, is to have a new banner competition.

I used the Color and Theme Creator from Proboards. You have to log in as admin or have admin powers to use it.
Barbieq's banner does wrap, it just isn't as noticeable. The others are 900 px wide. How would you determine what size banner will work?

What's the overall dimension of the forum?

I have the same thing appearing, but it's no biggy.

It's no biggy for me either, but I would like to get it looking proper. The forum width is variable, 90% of the screen. I can make it a fixed width, if I do I would like it to not look dwarfed on a wider screen. I will try a few things on my test forum and see how it looks. Here is the Help page on changing forum width, if you're interested: www.proboards.com/admin-guide/themes-styles/changing-forum-width
