First you'll need to do Chad's concrete tut' ... ClickAs always, the more work you put into certain areas ... like stretching pixels etc, gives the more realistic results
Enjoy

Well I finally realized I was using the wrong displacement tool ... Now it actually come out fast and easy. Took a couple of extra passes to make some quick glow/wave form. I'll revisit this from a different angle now (puns intended) since I've gotten a few more ideas since my first runs at it on how to actually create the surface layers etc. Here's my fast take on it:

I had worked out how to get bigger better bubbles ... but for the life of me can't replicate it

Funny you'd mention that. I'm still fascinated by this method. A lot of my experiments in the gallery are based on wanting to learn how gradients can be used which was inspired from this very tut. That and how to understand the difference between luminosity and alpha when blended (which I still dont ...) Oh, the part about the funny thing ... one of the things I want to do is create larger bubbles. The problem with my last attempt (and several before that) is that I wound up making something else. "Oh, look! Something shiny!" ... This is the result of my last attempt down this rabbit hole. Sure, it's really neat, but it doesn't work to make bigger bubbles. Though I may be missing something on how to blend it, so I'm posting it here with the idea it may have the right underlying height and texture and I'm just missing something. (warning folks, this thing is 5.5 megs @ 1680x1050 and my hosting sometimes stalls on it ... note to self, write letter of concern ...) ((edit: resolved by moving a directory and resetting some things on my server. should load fine now.))

That looks really cool! Hubby said it looked like algae. I told him it's called 'geode texture' and he says it's exactly what geode texture looks like. Most of what I come up with starts out intending to be something else, so I stopped trying to plan a long time ago. I don't try much to understand anything either, I follow the directions and get what I get.
