Oh Pixey that is just so precious! Leif's comment is spot on for me too. The background is perfect for it. Well done!

Thank you so much Leif, Helen, @bp & @bbq for your great comments, which mean so much to me I have modified my post above, with the photo of the rose I tried to emulate. Interestingly, adding the water spots was a decision I could not make my mind up about When I copied the photo exactly, with four drops, my hubby said it did not look right. I then made a whole lot more and I was still not happy, so I decided to add a few more than the original photos. Funny isn't it? Helen - Thank you for your previous encouragement and pointers about using a bigger canvas. You gave me the courage to try this one more time. Thanks a bunch y'all

Stunning image Pixey! I think the red rose on a b/w background works brilliantly. This must have taken you ages. I think it`s always nice to add your own touch to an image so the extra water drops were a good idea. Really well done.

Incredible detail. I liked it enough to play with it. Has wonderful 3D pop from the middle and difference blend abilities from how well done the blending, color, etc all comes together.
Ack that sounded pretentious. Some things draw me to right click copy and paste into PDN ... I still dont know why I do it, but I find I learn from it each time just a little bit. This one drew my hand. I'm still presuming it was because of a hidden fondness. But I dont even pretend to know my own motivations ...
You sig seems to work really well with this one. Almost belongs as part of the image. Only thing might be to consider a couple of variants on it. Like in this case it was a focal draw. Consider desaturating it and fading it slightly perhaps to keep that from happening as strongly. That's just me, but anything that draws from that rose in the middle is a shame.

Thanks so much @gooney Yes, it did take me ages to do .... an 'awful' lot of smudging, as you can imagine. But - I'm learning about shadows and lighting as I go along. WoW! Thank you so much delpart for those kind words and thoughts. Much appreciated. Yes, I need to work on the Pixey image/sig to tone it down. I made it ages ago and it has a little halo which needs removing. I'll get to work on it and make it a bit 'blander' so as not to interfere with the art work itself. Great advice, thanks

Oh Pixey! That is just gorgeous. I love the smudging on her hair. The minimal colour make this so dramatic. Great job with the eyes & the beads too. Fantastic!!

Wow. Great work. Good balance between the different amounts of blur. That gives the picture a nice 3d effect. Kind of like an old B/W picture.

Reminds me of older Album covers with the way they would print them. Cant find a fast example to link to, but that's what came to mind.
The detail is captivating. I especially like the gradient drop for making her standout.

Thank you SO much BBQ, Leif, DP, Helen, Sargon & BP for your kind words on Audrey. As I mentioned, she's hubby's favourite all time star. Herewith my latest piece: Hanging Around. It got me through 4 weeks of waiting for a biopsy result on hubby .... sadly the news today is that he has prostate cancer. I am gutted Now for further tests before we can get to the type of treatment he will need. I always new this day would come around, but I was not ready for it. Other than having Malaria once, he has never been ill in the 40 years we have been married.

Sorry to hear about your hubby. That's not good at all, but I DO hope things will turn in the right direction. For the kitties, they're just adorable. :oYour work reminds me of oma's because it doesn't look easy to create and very detailed. I'm in LOVE the kitties. Keep up the stunning work, Pixey!

Yes, cancer is always this "what is going to happen" thing. Sorry to hear about that. I really understand that you are going true hard times. Hope your husband will have a fighting spirit. That is so important.
The cats are so cute.

Big higs and wishes for a speedy treatment. Hits close to home right now so no real flourish to my thoughts and sympathies.
On a funny side note though (today better than yesterday a little) I wish current politicians had to wait this long for results. Evil twisted humor, but that long delay on getting an answer is just plain awful. So in my twisted logic, I wish it upon the fools who blow all our monies some agony in recompense. ;D
Be well and stay strong. While I'm not a holistics person in general, the love for another is often the strongest point of their treatment. So staying strong and with love for them helps in my experience(s).

Pixey, I really am so sorry to hear that. I wish the best possible outcome for the both of you. I know that the treatment is not always pleasant but I am sure the two of you will get through this.
The kitties are just awesome. Unbelievably good. I love Siamese cats. You did such a great job with the colours & poses. Well done!

I'm rubbish at being able to express myself with a little text in situations like these. In fact I'm really not that much better face to face as my bumblings tonight chatting with a friend and neighbour who's father had a massive stroke last Sunday whilst in a nursing home due to Parkinson's disease. One situation is so very different to the other. Either one I can't do any praying but I'm sincere when I offer up my deepest best wishes. (Does all that sound lame ? ) The image ... The impressive part is how natural the spidder looks in it. The composition is excellent. I hate cats but love this

Just a quick thank you everyone for your best wishes and, of course, your lovely comments on the kitties. Just taking it a day at a time right now and trying to be positive - there are so many good outcomes, so hoping it will be the same here. Meanwhile I suspect that PDN will be my friend helping to keep my mind occupied otherwise. Have just ordered a new DVD on how to paint animals (in Photoshop - but am sure I can still learn from it) so, for Welshy, I must try to do something other than cats every now and then
