Love the outcome of the latest work mate, excellent. Having used both Photoshop and PDN now i would say there are plus and minuses for both, but i still use PDN v3.6 for most of my work

Thanks afg . I think every program has it`s own quirks , pluses and minuses. It would be a bit boring if they were all the same and part of the fun is combining the best aspects of different software into an image. Wish I could try some of your trifle Pixey!

Everyone's right about it not being easy to make a good photomanip (I know to loads of deleted pdn files experience ...) That really is a great job mate. Stunning to look at. Not wanting to p*ss on your parade at all, but I can't help thinking it needs a small shadow on the steps. It seems a trifle 'unreal' I've included an image to show what I mean My theory may get shot down ;D Nonetheless, love it mate

Thanks Welshy. I`ve compared the image you posted with the one I have and I really can`t see any difference between the two. I know what you are getting at though. I`ll have a bit of a play around and see what happens.

the temple picture is wonderful. One of the better uses of stock that I've seen. Seamless and realisticly done. .

Well that does look better with the shadow but also I think the edges of the bright part of the steps needs a bit of shadow too (where the step tread meets the wall).

Temple v3 posted. I`ve added shadows either side of the steps and also a bit more to the front of them as well as they are facing away from the sun. Good call Welshy. Thanks. And thanks for your feedback as well Barbie, although I only saw your post after I had posted the new version. Too busy on PDN fiddling with this image. ;D

Goonie, it looks much better but after seeing Sargon's comment on the banner thread, I have cast a more critical eye over it. Not to criticism but more to see how real it is. Perspective & highlights/shadows is something I struggle with all the time. PP gave me some wonderful advice on the jewels.
While the shadows you now have certainly help in making the steps more 3D, I think one of the problems is the perspective - the steps need to get much smaller at the top. At the moment they are very steep.
The first 2 steps down from the top are great but on some of them, the bright part seems to go into the wall & it gives the impression of bars rather than steps. Maybe cutting them off at an angle? Again perspective.
The steps also would cast a triangular shadow on the wall beside it, starting at the top edge of the step & meeting at the top edge of the next step & darker near the step.
While this is not my image I am learning something & really thinking. I do recall Ben doing a study in light & shadow on his dA site.
I focussed too much on the stonework & the light (which I adore) to really think more deeply about the rest of the image. I'm squirrelling this info away for later!

Wow Barbie, you are hard to please aint you? (just joking ) You make some good points actually. I `m going to have to back into this file - again! - and try to implement them. Thanks very much.

Goonie, very nice image, I like the perspective very much, and the lighting is nice, too. Barbie has some good points, and I think your Sun in that position could cast light on the top of side walls.

Goonie - my response so often is "I'm easy..." which gets me into a lot of strife. My students put together a PowerPoint presentation for me to the song "Easy Like a Sunday Morning". ;D I think we all learnt a lot from this image & Sargon's comments too. I remember when PP said that my gold needed some shine & gave me some fantastic pointers to improve it & then we worked on the shadow/highlights. We want to make great art yeah?

This discussion is very educational. I'm glad Welshy posted the before and after so we can see the difference it makes. Goonie, I'm learning along with you. I'm an idiot with perspective and highlights/shadows, and the comments here will be helpful if I decide to try something like this. Might be a while, it seems to require a lot of thinking and patience.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I`ve had a few good things pointed out here. Although I still havn`t added the light/shadow on the walls. I forgot last time but I will get round to it.

Haven`t done a space image for some time so I thought I`d give Sketchup a break and make one. I`ve called it Journey to the Stars. All 100% PDN .

I've missed your space images. They're always so good and they make me want to travel to space. Very nice spaceship and celestial objects surrounding it!!
