Sadly as in all parts of life ... we all come and go.
Hopefully she'll resolve it

I had no idea Patty was going to delete all her accounts. What a tragic loss. I agree, she should keep her accounts even if she loses internet. There are always places where you can get free access from time to time so you can check in on things and upload artwork. She could stop in a Starbucks a couple times a week and get on her DA account.
My rant for the week. Oh so many things this week! I've been fighting all week with Dell over my new laptop that I was supposed to get over two weeks ago. They send me another email telling me that there has been another delay in it being built because of the keyboard being on back order. More on that in a few. On Wednesday, my Dad who has a slow growing cancer had some test results come back that caused the doctor to order a complete body bone scan to see if it has spread. Wednesday was also my Mother's birthday. Dad stopped by the nursing home where my uncle is staying while he is battling lung cancer. He died at 4:30 while my Dad was there. At least Dad got to see his brother one last time. So the funeral is on my birthday. It's all kind of sad but we all knew it was coming. The one bright spot out of it all is now that Dad has seen how bad my uncle suffered, he wants to get more aggressive with his treatment. That's what we all wanted anyway. I think he thought he was too old to bother with. I guess that is what it took for him to understand what we all wanted from the start.
I was supposed to hear back from the people at Dell on Thursday afternoon, but they didn't call. We had a really bad storm today and the office was closed so I didn't hear from them today either. With all that happened this week, I realized how unimportant it really is. When I go back to work on Tuesday, I'm just going to tell them to give me credit and I'll pick out a different computer so I can just end this stupid game they are playing with me. I just want to get through the next few days, get my family through the funeral, and find out the test results on my Dad. I'm going to hope and pray for the best.
I'm glad you guys liked my banner. I made it on my current laptop that has a 14" screen and that might be why I didn't catch the text being messed up. My eyes are getting pretty old and that's why I really wanted a 17" laptop. Oh well, back to square one. I'll fix the text when I get a chance this weekend.
Thanks for listening.... I'll try to check in over the weekend.

Possum, what a whole lot yo have going on in your life at the moment. I am sorry for your loss but I agree it was great that your Dad saw him one last time & that he has changed his mind about the treatment. I do hope he gets good news.
A for the pc - boy I hope they get their act together!

Have a Dell myself. Had problems when McAfee "updated" and got me a blue screen. Found out it may be the driver to the wireless card. ( Don't use it. ) Tried to update that and had another blue screen. Changed anti virus to solved the problem. Apart from that i have been quite satisfied with the PC. But a little over a year ago Dell got a loot of criticism for there bad service here. So if i were to buy a new PC today, it wouldn't be a Dell.

You really have had a tough time of it recently. Sorry to hear about your Uncle. It`s good that your Dad got to see him one more time anyway.
I`ve had two Dell laptops now and not had a problem with either one. They were delivered in good time as well. On this one, the XPS16, I had a Mcaffee trial as well. It never gave me any problems but I got rid of it anyway and installed Avast. Never quite got to really like it and I had a bad experience on the last laptop with their Site Advisor plug in.
I ordered both my Dell`s through a local computer store so if anything did go wrong under warranty they would have to get it fixed instead of me having to send it back through the post and so on. When you buy from a shop your contract is with them and not the manufacturer.
Hope your problems get sorted out soon Possum.

Wow, Possum, I had no idea how rough your week had been. It puts things into perspective.
My wife lost her last surviving grandmother to 3 different type of cancer - lung, bone, and something else on Valentine's Day. At least she had a chance to drive down to South Carolina and spent 3 days with her. My wife seem to take the loss pretty well, and we had the good fortunate to take a photograph of my wife with her grandmother one last time last spring, so I guess things happen for a reason.
As for your Dell computer problem, I have heard that Dell's customer service has really taken a nose dive since it was outsourced to India (unless memory serve correctly, they have since brought it back to the US). In general, customer service has really taken a beating.
I bought my laptop from Best Buy and have never had any trouble with it. If I had my way, I would probably buy a iMac next time, even if it means losing PDN. Fortunately, there's a very good paint program for Mac (Pixelmator) and from what I have seen, it makes me wish I had Pixelmator instead of PDN sometime.

I don't think you can ever fully prepare for death, even if it is expected. And it is not always the once you expect, that end up being the first to go.

That is a really rough week Possum. Sorry to hear about your uncle, and I hope your dad's treatment works well.
Good luck with your PC too. We have two Dell computers and no problems with either of them. Except for operator error, and for that we call our neighbour the computer geek expert.
Lance, sorry to hear about your wife's grandmother.
I've been having some eye problems the last week or so. Bright lights are bothering me more than usual, and the computer has been really bad. I can't spend as much time on it as I would like. I'll be calling the eye doctor, and I'm keeping track so I can explain it more accurately. It's probably something simple, but it's really annoying. I've changed my background colour to grey, and it seems better so far.
Hopefully it will be warmer. The last couple of days have been pretty darn cold. Wind chill -37C! Brrrrr!

@possum and Lance: I'm sorry to hear about your losses. Three of my sisters own a Dell and they have problems with it. I own an HP and I love it much better. Maybe it's just the preference.

The Dell Vostro I have that's not working will be my 5th Dell laptop. I have been using Dell for years, in fact I have a Dell that's 12 years old. It was originally a Windows NT graphics workstation that I upgraded to Win 2000 for my wife. It still works, but I replaced it with an IBM Xeon workstation for her. She loves it. This little 14" Dell Precision is an awesome laptop. It's just that it's so small and getting hard for me to see things the way I want, hence my buying a 17". I'm really bummed that it's not working out. I have some options though. I can try to get Support to send a tech and have him fix it. It is after all exactly what I wanted, but I have this feeling that it might just be one of those bad eggs that will have problem after problem. I do have the 3 year on-site service agreement, but if you have a lot of down time you lose faith and confidence in your computer. I've had cars like that and you never feel safe. Another option would be to just wait for them to build my new Vostro and I would have exactly what I have now with the exception that it would be new and would work. The other option would be to get a refund/credit and order a different model. If I do, it would be a 15.6" Precision with an i5 processor instead of a 17" with an i7 quad core processor. It would still have 4 gig of ram and a 1 gig video card. So, right now I don't know what I'm going to do. I guess I'll figure that out this weekend and let them know on Tuesday.

Interesting that you mentioned bad eggs. I had a VW Polo that was just the same. Two weeks after I bought it the exhaust box came loose so it had to go back for that fix, then it was something else, then a problem with the gearbox and then a slow leak in one of the tyres. Just one small niggly problem after another. In the end I just got rid of it and bought a Honda Jazz. Great car, totally reliable and never gives any problems. Sometimes cars, or PC`s , just seem to be cursed and it needs a complete break to change things round.

I had a Kia Rio that went like a dream. They had 2 recalls from the factory to fix things like the fuel line over the exhaust system that could catch fire & the wheels were known to disintegrate. Because I was going through a divorce, the ba****d decided not to pass the recall letters to me but I found out anyway & they fixed it pronto. A few people I knew also has the same model car & they had nothing but troubles with it despite it going in to get fixed numerous times. So sometimes you can get lucky too.
I bought a Pioneer laptop that was super fast etc but one day it caught on fire. 6 months of drama but I was working 120 hours over 8 days & so I had the cash to go & buy another one while they stuffed about. The Acer is the one I am still using. I sold the Pioneer for a good price & went like a dream again until the lady killed it.
The Acer I have is now about 6 years old & I run an external mouse, monitor & keyboard. If you are happy with the old one Possum & it is just the screen size, perhaps running a huge external monitor would be the go?

Another thought, Possum, if your laptop can support multiple monitors on your 14 inch laptop, I would simply buy another LCD monitor and hook it up. That's how I can browse the internet, work on PDN, all without having to use ALT-TAB. It's so convenient that way.

Someones had it for firewood! ;D
Here`s a thought. I have just been working on my house model in SU but when I had finished I saved it and went to close the program. To my complete surprise I was asked by Google if I wanted to upload it to the 3D Warehouse ! How on earth did they know I was working on a model ? And how did they know if it was even good enough to upload?
The only explanation I can come up with is that I have been downloading components from the Warehouse to add to my house, things like plants, fences, a patio table and so on. They must have a system that keeps track of what has been used and automatically asks if you want to upload your work. I certainly havn`t contacted anyone about it.
While it`s nice to be asked, I do think it`s a bit of a cheek having sysems like this in place. Big Brother is most certainly here!

Even when they have died, trees give of themselves. Guess someone is making good use of it. It will be replaced by others. I can see that there are a few beside it which may now grow even bigger with more room.
Hmmm...not sure that I would like to be tracked like that.
I coped a virus when Googling images for the "vacation" comp. A new tab opened & it told me that Windows has detected threats. It looked just like the windows firewall thingy. It asked me if I wanted to remove the threats. When I clicked "yes" it wanted me to download something, so I didn't allow it. Ran AVG after updating it.
Not sure what this is all about. There are a lot of scammers around. Anybody had similar? Did I do the right thing?

I was searching Google images a couple of weeks back and I clicked on a thumbnail to see the picture full size and Avast popped up to say it had stopped a trojan from installing. You have to be so careful. WOT(Web Of Trust) had given the green light as well. Sarkut the link to Precise Security you posted takes me to a website indicated by WOT to have a poor reputation. I`m having doubts about the effectiveness of this plug in. I used to have SAS on my old laptop and it did a good job clearing out the tracking cookies. I`ve tried downloading it on this one twice now and both times it downloaded, did the initial scan but when I closed the program I was unable to open it again. So I had to uninstall it. Pity because I think it and MBAM are the two best to have.

WOT may be right, so I've deleted that link, and replaced it with another.

I'm a big fan of Google's tools, but I find the company kind of creepy. They seem to have no regard for people's privacy. It's almost like they think they have a right to personal information just because you use their browser or drawing program or search engine. Facebook is much the same. They build in all these privacy protections and settings and then when they update the program, they reset all your settings so all your personal info is showing to everyone again. Just recently a whole bunch or people had their email addresses show up on their profile even though they had originally set it so their email address was private. Big Brother is certainly watching and it's not the Government any more, it's Google and Facebook.

I remember pyrochild had a tag under his sig that said something along the line, "There's no point of existence, they have been cached by Google." That basically sums up how "private" our lives are.
If you want to go really private, disconnect all digital service, install the old rotary phone, and get rabbit eared televisions, and you are golden.

Popup tels you you got a virus --> Want to remove it? --> Download software --> "You got lots of virus" --> Buy this product to remove them. --> Product is at the best worthless. Quit common to have this kind of scams. Best advise is always to close the window and run your own virus scanner. Some of these scams is in Windows that you cant close. Then you have to use task manege to kill your browser.
