Thank you those that wished me well. We survived. It was scary! For 3 days 90% of the city had no power. We had no mobile phone coverage. We prepared for no water. It looks like a war zone. We only had a little bit of damage to our 95 yea old home. We were lucky. The damage is hard enough but not we have humidity of almost 100% & temps of nearly 40 deg Celsius dropping to 33 in the early hours of the morning. The mozzies are eating us alive even with repellent on! I feel so sorry for people with little kids & babies.
Yes, bad weather is on the increase.

So now it's still winter in Calgary, and the forecast high for tomorrow is 16C. Six months ago - when it was still summer - we were buried under snow. The back yard is alternately a swimming pool and skating rink, and with all the snow melted I can see the dog poop I didn't get picked up before it snowed. I love weather. I've been busy with calligraphy stuff. I went to a great workshop last weekend, we have registrations coming in for upcoming workshops, and I'm taking on the E-bulletin. Oh yeah. I hate Daylight Saving Time. (And it's Saving, not Savings.) Hubby made a grooming appointment for the dog for 8 am today, not realizing the clocks were turning ahead. So we all got up before we really wanted to. Then we went to visit his cousins, and they forgot about the clocks so they were just getting up. The cat is happy about it though. She starts waiting for her dinner an hour and a half before I usually serve it, so she'll be fed on time now (according to her). I think she stayed on Daylight Time all year.

I wish we had daylight saving here. I could get so much more done after work. So hot here. Sick of it. Be happy if we could even it out a bit

I've heard people talk about getting rid of Daylight time altogether, or staying on Daylight time all year, but neither way would work well here. If we didn't have it, the sun would rise at 4:30 am instead of 5:30 in the summer; if we kept it, sunrise in winter would be 9:30 instead of 8:30. Sometimes I think life would be better in some ways without clocks at all. Confusing, but better. Daylight time is good for people who have daytime jobs and like to do outdoor stuff. For me it's a pain, because my sleep / wake cycle takes a long time to adjust. Barbie, I think you would like it here in summer - we get 16 hours of daylight on the longest days. Winter is another story.

BP, is that a good thing? In this crazy world it is a good sign to actually live that long.

Helen, any time I can save money, it's a good thing. Goonie, I'm what a friend calls a mini senior - 55 is the age some places start giving discounts. But if they give discounts at 21, then I can be 21. Leif, I'm impressed I've made it this far. Although it makes me think I should take better care of myself. Or maybe start drinking Dr. Pepper like that 104-year-old lady. dfw.cbslocal.com/2015/03/18/dr-pepper-the-doctor-of-choice-for-a-104-year-old-woman/

It makes sense and explains exactly what I've been saying about Dr Pepper for the last 40 years: that it tastes JUST like medicine. I've always hated it, but my daughter is a devotee and misses it since moving to the UK

Because of that news story I have to stop nagging my hubby about drinking so much Dr. Pepper. I shouldn't have a problem finding something else to nag him about.

Thank you Seerose for thinking of me. A few others have contacted me too which is very sweet. We have had a couple of deaths & drama in the family but starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Work has been crazy busy too & still is. I hope by the end of this month it will be better but somehow I doubt it. Workloads have increased & time to do it is reduced & this is for everyone I talk to. I am lucky that I have a job that I love doing
