Ack. Heaven's no. I've tried my real hand on canvas and couldn't manage it. I did however live with an artist for many years. (Long story there, I wont digress much.) So, with her being an actual arts major and a real painter, etc. I had a real look at it. Now if only some of her work had survived various moves and economic issues etc to share it right now ... Simply to show what may be influencing my stuff.
I have a couple of sketch books around here somewhere and at least one clay piece that has survived all my moving. I really should unpack that piece and photograph it ... Maybe that will be a Christmas gift for a couple of other people I've been meaning to write to recently.
Sorry for the confusion there. And while I'm thinking about it I guess I really do have more of a background in this than I think I do. Again, I have the weird mental block that says I'm not an artist, therefor I easily dismiss my own knowledge.
(not meaning to hijack, but I felt since I mislead maybe that I should explain.)
On a side note, I was thinking about this during doing dishes this evening. Being the normal geek (computers, D&D, dice, Star Wars fan, etc etc) I noted that one of the things I enjoyed the most on-line and even some of my prized antique software is art related. Like the site Fark. Sure, its geek news. But what I looked for most over the years there was the photoshop threads. That's just art really. And then of course all the time spent with fractals vs other pursuits some time ago. People have proven all the exploring really does make art.
So, like when I came across as authoritative there, I guess it really is from years of having a silent dialog with myself about this on one level or the other.
Hope that makes sense and apologies for the confusion.

Another one of my paintings (there's four of them so far). All original ideas credited to Sandra Kuck. I painted this for practice. Painting

Stunning. Superb. Add any superlative there is The lil' girl makes me miss BabyBlue before she became a teenager with the attitude. Your talent knows no bounds ... digital or with a brush ... it's always an absolute pleasure and honour to view

I agree with Welshy - except the BabyBlue part coz I don't really know about that part. My daughter was always the tomboy even as a baby. Teenagers get attitude, thankfully that stage passes too.
I love the little girl's chubby innocence. An adorable image for sure!

Well as you know Helen I have real trouble loading dA pages ( still do and just can`t work out why ) so I can`t see this latest image. But I`m sure it`s as special as all the others. I don`t need to see your artwork to know it`s top notch.

This is fantastic painting, I like her features, I wish if the background is a little bigger, I mean more spaces between the girl and borders, but that is just my own idea, it doesn't need to be true, because that may give more attention to the background than the little girl. Thanks so much for posting this awesome piece of art.

Wow! That`s outstanding. I was right - I don`t need to see it to know it`s great(but I do enjoy seeing it so thanks for posting it here ) So many flowers and all so varied. They look lovely, just like a real garden. And the folds and creases in the girls dress look great. Better than I could ever imagine it to be. Well done Helen.

Okay. This is what kept me busy these past few months. Lots of editing, preparing these characters for simple animation, and so on. Some images aren't the final versions and are missing details. Interactive StoriesThis official website contains both books I've done (again, some of the illustrations are different in the final versions): HEREHERE

Without wanting to get too gushy but I feel absolutely honoured that an artist such as yourself has been a fan of my work for so long. (- September the 1st 2008) Absolutely stunning stuff Helen. I really can't understand why you have to knock on doors when people should be knocking yours down to sign you up. The Little Black Fish slide is of Finding Nemo quality IMO. All other slides are equally as great in other ways. Love that bear and the way you've captured the look on Lil' Black Fish's face ... an absolute joy. Thanks for posting the links BTW ... awesome new sig

Welsh, there's a reason why I fell in love with your work. You have such great ideas and always so different. Plus, you were very supportive of my work from the very beginning, as well. And about my job issues. Well, it seems like I'm never good enough for any company. Even if I apply to an administrative job (high school position), I never hear from them. I apply to graphic design jobs or illustrating jobs, and don't hear from them either. Now I'm thinking that something's wrong with me and I don't measure to their standards. So frustrating. Thanks for mentioning about the fish and the other images. So glad you commented and looked them over. Oh, and you like the sig, huh? Thank you.

Beautiful illustrations Helen, very polished and professional, love the expression of the crocodiles face. I cannot understand why you have not been given a chance to shine on a bigger stage, but hopefully as more of your work gets out into the market place through projects like this, the recognition you deserve will come.

Wow. Beautiful pictures. Loots of details. You put all the gradients and blurring just perfect. You are a real pro at this. I just fall in love with that picture of the little fish looking at the sunrise. Great work.

Those are really so beautiful, I love the tadpoles, I used to watch them till they leave the water as very little frogs, but what really caught my eyes is the seaweeds, you have done them in a very nice way, especially the image of the frog diving in the water. You put a lot of details and objects that make kids really react and enjoy looking at them and have lot of fun. The image of the two girls sitting on a bench it could work as a painting, I like the expression on both their faces and the whole view, it is so pleasing, well all images are so happy and pleasing. Great job Helen, wish you a very good luck, just keep knocking, don't give up, you will get job you deserve. Oh forgot to say that I like your new sig and avi.

AFG: Thank you for your comments, kindly. The crocodile page wasn't that easy to create since it was more of a "whole page-from-the-top view" and you won't believe how many times I had to redraw that crocky. And also, I don't think I'm very lucky to shine on a bigger stage. Leif: Thank you, leif. The fish in the sunset was obviously influenced by Flounder from the "Little Mermaid." I wanted to capture that fairy-tale look to it. @sargon: I love watching little tadpoles grow. A few years ago, there were tons of them in my pool. When we had to drain the water from the cover, they were gone so I never saw them as adults. Oh, and the frog diving underneath. Well, it was kind of a long process. I found a perfect photo online where a frog is diving underwater and then I had to envision myself being the frog and figure out which way the bubbles would go. I sometimes want to quit looking for a job, but I really can't. It's been five years without a job and I just can't keep on living like this. I'm not getting younger, either. And glad you like my new sig and avvie combo.

Helen, your work is outstanding. There is so much love in those images too. I totally agree that you deserve to shine on a bigger stage. I truly hope someone will see your great worth & give you a chance to shine.
Beautiful illustrations from such a talented & wonderful young lady.

What joyous images to feast my eyes upon so early in the day. They all - birdies, frogs, fishes et al, are so sweet, soft, shiny, glossy and emphasize what you do best. You have a great talent and it saddens my heart that you are not fully employed doing this. I don't think you need to worry that you are not good enough ..... sadly, it's a sign of the times and hopefully, one day, things are going to get better and your dream will be fulfilled GREAT new avvie and Signature too. Would be perfect for buttons

What great illustrations! I love the expressions on the animals faces. The little fish is so adorable.
You really do deserve to do this full time. I feel so frustrated for you.
Nice new sig and avvie too - very pretty.

@barbie: I can't explain how much I love drawing. I sit down and draw and it makes me so happy. And when I don't have a project, I'm constantly doodling or thinking of ideas of what to draw next. Thank you for your nice and inspiring words, barbie. My sig and avvie was a project I wanted to work on for a while, so I'm happy I finally had a chance and work on them. Thank you. Pixey: Animals. I love drawing them. The hardest part is to come up with the characters, but after that step's done, the rest is a breeze. So glad you like them, Pixey. I really appreciate it! @bp: I admit that the little fish was inspired by Nemo. I bought a small Nemo toy figurine to help me position the character in the book. I usually don't use figurines or toys and sometimes take my own photos or look up photo references online. Thank you about my sig and avvie.
