With the laptop and PDN of course!

No problem, just a suggestion. Don't want you to go into any more trouble than you have too.

I`ve decided to start making my own furniture as much as possible now. Downloading from the Warehouse is all very well but you don`t actually learn anything apart from how to copy & move things around. Here`s my first ever set of shelving. Rendered with Shaderlight and a bit of post processing in PDN (what would I do without it?) -

Odd, I would think that Shaderlight would be able to smooth the edge. This is why I think you ought to try Kerkythea, but with your issue you been having, that just plain sucks.

Great work goonie, the backyard is wonderful, and the bookshelf is just great, when I export a scene in 2D, I choose PNG format with width about 1000 pix, and check the AA, to get clean edges.
Off topic, in Sketchup, you can draw almost any single geometrical shape, I am wondering if there is a shape I didn't think about it, drawing it in the program.

Lance , I think it`s probably just me not choosing a high enough quality render setting. Out of curiosity I decided to try rendering it in Kerky to see what it would be like. I set it up, adjusted the settings of the AA , chose 640x480 for the size and clicked on render. As soon as I did this - it crashed! I`m afraid it`s going to have to go. I don`t know whether it`s a video card incompatibility or something but I just can`t get it to work. It should be able to render something as simple as a set of shelves with no problem. Thanks Chris. Sargon I think the mistake I made was saving it(the shelf) as a bmp file instead of png. When I saved the garden as a png I was able to easily add the sky/clouds in PDN. With the shelves I forgot. Now the trial period for Shaderlight is over I am restricted to 640x480 resolution. But that`s still fine for what I need. I never saved in anything bigger when I did have all the features so it`s not a problem

I'd love to have those shelves in my house! I like the texture of the wood & the way you did the top & bottom parts.
Shame about those other programs.

Certainly is Barbie. Never mind, with PDN,TG2,Gimp and Sketchup with Shaderlight I`ve got plenty to keep me busy!

Thanks Helen. I`ve just uploaded my first model to the 3D Warehouse! I made this sliding unit for people to use in their projects. Each section has been grouped individually so you can open and close the draws and adjust the length - If you are interested in taking a look just type `sliding unit' into the 3D Warehouse search box.

Very cool. Will you have things inside the drawers or will that be too detailed?

It is possible to fill the draws yes. I`ve no plans to fill mine yet though. I did make a nice spray can that could go in there though.
What I think would be nice is a row of books on the bookshelves.

Sorry to bombard everyone with this house, you must be getting fed up of all these updates. It`s just that I`m chuffed to bits with this one. I`ve finally conquered layers in SU (which work differently to programs like PDN) , components, groups, intersecting etc. - I`ve finally got comfortable with using them. Still have to try the Sandbox tool though which helps you create terrain from scratch. All thanks to those tuts I mentioned earlier. Anyway here is the latest. This is the front (obviously!). The image at the back comes with Shaderlight as part of the Lighting Environment settings. This one is called Golf Course Evening. The windows seem grey but that`s because I forgot to adjust the texture settings ! In the Pro version you can add lights inside the model to light up the rooms but the trial has finished and I no longer have access to this feature. Hope you like it.

Persoanlly, I love to see the updates & how you use different programs.
I like the house a lot esp. the doors & the little trees but I like bigger windows. The bricks are great but the roof could be a bit darker, maybe?
In any case I think good on you for persisting with the programs. It seems to me that it has been a huge learning curve for you - one that you have enjoyed very much.

Goonie, Your 3D work is really impressive but what caught my eye was your Gimp work. Your space scape pieces are every bit as good as your PdN spacescapes, and you know that I love your spacescapes. Very very nice ! I need to spend more time with the Gimp. I've used it mostly for doing text based stuff for sigs and a few abstracts. Your space pieces here have inspired me to get back to work on learning the Gimp better.

Thanks Barbie. I did think about putting bigger windows in when I was at that stage . I think a couple of larger ones at the front would have looked better. Glad you like the sliding unit Chris. Thanks. Possum it`s nice nice to know I`ve inspired you in your work. Thanks for the comment about the spacescapes.

I'd love a house with bay windows where you can have a ledge for African violets & a padded seat with pretty cushions. Good to dream, sometimes

I'd love a house with bay windows where you can have a ledge for African violets & a padded seat with pretty cushions. Good to dream, sometimes I could never grow them. My dad had a huge collection of them in the bank window when he was still working. They were so beautiful. All the little old ladies in town would stop in to see them and his tomato plants. Goonie, the house is just beautiful ! I think my favorite part is the roof. You guys really have Sketchup down. I just couldn't get far with it for some reason.
