The Ice Cubes in this one were made in Blender and the image worked on in PDN. I never meant this one to be 100% realistic , more of an impression of ice. You probably (I hope ) see more ice in your head than is in the image! I think that`s what I mean - I can`t really put it into words. God I`m confusing myself now! ;D Hope you like it anyway.

Yup. Reminds me of the remnants of over-priced ice sculptures ... Now before the artists tear me apart on that, there is a break over point where a cast mold pure water ice "sculpture" for $1500 is asking way too much. Now if its hand carved etc, that's different. In that respect it reminds me of those after the party winds down as well.
Good impression. At least its not Povray. ;D Though that's one thing Povray is oddly good at.
So besides the border, what else was from the PDN side in there? Love the before and after to see what is possible.

They look like ice cubes to me! I wouldn't mind having some with cold soda right, preferably Coke.

They do make you thirsty don`t they? ;D Thanks Helen. Del , you wanted to see the original Blender render so here it is. I saved it as an alpha png so I could add any background I wanted.

A lovely outcome. On such a hot day this is a very cool (pun intended) image to view. Relaxing too.

That helps a lot mate. Thanks. And since it was in a fun png I played with for a few minutes. Its creepy how ray tracing lines things up so stuff like that can glow etc while still maintaining the illusion. Darn CPU is smarted than my hands that's for sure.

Well to quench everyone`s thirst I`ve made you all a cup of tea! All the cups, saucers etc.. were made by me but the trees in the window are made up from downloaded blend files kindly supplied by Andrew Price from BlenderGuru. This was rendered using the new Cycles render engine recently built into Blender. It uses a different method of rendering to the old renderer which gives much more realistic light/shadow on objects. It`s also a lot easier to set up your lighting as well now. Definitely the biggest thing to hit Blender since the new UI.

All it needs is a top hat ... ;D Or maybe a looking glass ... Though I guess that would be more of a garden setting ... Glad to see the new engine at work. The little glass orb is a nice touch. If there is anything hidden in this pic I'm not seeing it at the moment. I cant resist the pun, "Solid image" ... ;D

Weirdly I love this so much I could kiss you. Careful Welshy, people will get ideas! ;D Glad you like it. Thanks Helen. The great thing about Cycles is that reflection, shadows, highlights are all taken care of by the algorithm used to render the image. Glad you like it Del. Top hat for tea? I`m a bit more laid back than that! Jeans will do. ;D

What a beautiful tea set! The shape of it is just awesome. Mind you the artwork is really well done. I am seeing them as being real rather than digital... The glaze is like the Japanese tin glaze that I adore & collect. I love the combination of the white china with the plain wood. The reflections in the spheres is fabulous & again in the window. Just blew me away. I am coming for tea!

Another great render Goonie, the reflection is amazing, I like the three effects on the 3 orbs, glass, glossy and matte, showing the features of the application, wonderful image and subject, now time for a earl-grey cup even it is late night here.

The top hat etc was an Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass reference. Which ever suits your frame of mind ... the first thing that comes to mind, every single time somebody pulls out a full set. I read those (the real ones) when I was about 7 years old and they have warped me greatly over the years as I go back and re-read them, gain more wisdom, etc.
Though maybe you got that and I'm just being silly in both my original shorthanded literary reference or in clarifying it ...
Probably should have mentioned the cups seem too large for some reason. Just me probably. My experience with actual tea sets lends to the classics. More or less shot glasses ...
Another thing is that it is nice to see the lighting source was able to reflect the leaves into the surfaces from that side. Got to love this aspect of using an engine like that.
Only question I had was that the middle reflection looks like a blank wall or skyline. Or the potential that the ceiling is striped? All as mainly seen in the pitcher on the right ... Not sure if that is something you want to ponder for this or not moving forward. But one of the things I love to see in a still-life render is how much detail shows up in some of those reflections.
One of my favorites was a pretty detailed bookcase and a person sitting in a lounger smoking a pipe ... All reflected light onto the object on the seemingly plain still life render. Sort of like Escher's man in the glass idea more or less.
There may be more in there but it doesn't pop out at normal resolution for my eyes. So apologies if I missed something or got it wrong.

I think you might be right Del , the cups do look slightly too large. I guess I just like to give generous portions! The middle reflection you pointed out might be the Emission plane I used inside the room to help light it up. There is a way of making them emit the light but not appear in the render , but I have not figured that one out yet. Something I am going to have to look into for sure. The ceiling is certainly not striped! ;D Sargon I`m glad you noticed the orbs. That`s exactly why I put them there. Cycles is a superb render engine and has transformed the quality of the images rendered in Blender. No need for an external one anymore. Barbie, you seem to know quite a bit about porcelain so a nice compliment like that really makes me chuffed to bits . Thanks very much.

Pretty cool kitchen Goonie! Almost like the one I had down south, even the colour. Love a kitchen with loads of bench space.
