I just noticed this story in the news about the Google Art Project. They have decided to take Streetview indoors so you can visit various galleries around the world and have a look at the artwork on display. They are using a gigapixel process which stitches together multiple high resolution images. Apparently on average there are 7 billion pixels per image! This means you can zoom right in and see the smallest detail . The only thing I have found is that navigating around the galleries can be a bit tricky. I tried to move through a door and was repeatedly pushed off to the side as if I wanted to look at a painting on the wall. But you soon get used to it.
