I've always loved your abstracts because they have a style to it that I admire--the colors go together so well and the shapes of them are really nice. R2D2 reminds me of my family when we first moved to America. We watched Star Wars for the first time and I remember myself thinking that R2D2 was the cutest robot ever. You've done a stunning job on this piece. The details are impressive!

r2d2 is brilliant. So much detail but , as you say, the shadow is not quite right. In trying to `pull' the robot away from the background I think you have blurred the shadows too much so it looks more like a black `glow' around him. Cranberry Crush has such lovely warm colours. Definitiely makes me think of summer. Nice images Welshy.

Cranberry Crush is gorgeous, and because it's cranberry it makes me think of Christmas and turkey dinner. (And my awesome cranberry-orange relish.) Even looks like it has a slice of orange in it. R2D2 is as adorable as ever, and I like him with that background. Yesterday we watched a Weird Al Yankovic concert video and he does a couple of Star Wars bits. I was laughing until it almost hurt. He is so warped. www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9A3konfXow

Simply wonderful on the colorful abstract. I keep trying to get away from monotones and I blow them into next week ... ;D
I had to really look, then come back, look again to try and figure out what the heck ya'll are talking about on the d2 shadow. I can see it now. I think part of it has to do with how the light sources seem to strike him. Not sure how to get more detailed on that. His head sort of shows a multiple light source and the background looks like its not direct on shading ... might be where the blend is breaking.
Speaking of the background ... I'm still in love with it. I spent more time admiring that than what it must have taken to make R2 ...
And of course, R2 is spot on and simply brilliant work, shadow be darned.

BP the cranberry orange relish sounds yummy!
Delpart, I was the same & for the same reason. The background is so mesmerising on its own.
Welshy, I'd love to see the texture on its own - maybe in a pack (bit hint) ;D

@ BarbieQ' ... many thanks. It's getting so wintry here, any reference to summer is good @ Helen ... many thanks. I'm glad you enjoy my abstracts; to hear you say, an artist as talented as yourself holds admiration - let's just say it gives me a nice warm glow i really should watch Star Wars, but I'm happy he had nice reminiscence memories for you @ Goon' ... thanks mate. I think you hit the nail on the head with the shadow. I think I've been a bit heavy handed with Drop-Shadow and should have decreased the width a bit before blurring. @ Ella ... many thanks @ Venice' ... many thanks. I try to make the odd cheerful piece now and again. If only to prove to myself I'm not a miserable bar-steward all the time ;D Glad you enjoyed r2d2 @ B'Penny ... many thanks. Mmmmm cranberry and orange relish sounds good. Sounds great in cold turkey sandwiches on nice fresh crusty bread with proper butter, not spreads that make claims they can't back up ... but I digress a lot Weird Al is funny ... I didn't get a lot of the references but a very clever song. I like singing comedians. Stephen Lynch springs to mind ... @ Del' ... many thanks. You're right about the light sources throwing off the shadow. Between yourself and Goon' you've eased my frustrations on where I went wrong. The background ... I think I prefer that to r2d2 ;D I like to recycle parts of images whenever I can and mix and match. The parts behind came from manipulating parts from i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt241/WelshsPlace/Realistic%201/factorywip14.jpg Glad you enjoyed them @ BarbieQ' ... part 2 ... in the process of going through files looking for textures and objects that may be useful to other Fans ----------------------------------------- Apartment No. 9 ... Started out as an inspiration by Tammy Wynette then went off on a tangent by the suicide of Gary Speed . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Speed . Depression is a terrible thing. Keyhole Surgery ... back to recycling ;D The smiley face the inspiration and most probably copyright of The Mentalist. The scalpel seems to have lost some focus when I flattened Steampunk WIP ... something I started about 4 months ago and forgot about as other projects took over. Making it public so the thinking involved in finished it doesn't scare me off ;D *** Edit ... just realised I wrote a bit too much

You can never write too much Welshy. It`s always a good read. Lots of blood in Keyhole Surgery! The smiley face is a nice touch. Personally I think the knife would look better the other way round though , with the blade pointing inwards . But it`s a great gruesome image. Nice one. Not sure what to make of Steampunk though. The various elements are well made, the wood, the boiler, the dial on the right etc. But as a whole thing I`m not sure.... still thinking. I think I commented on Apartment No.9 n the other forum , but it`s worth saying again - amazing wood textures! I like the way you are drawn to the opening to try to peer inside. I`m turning the laptop sideways to see if I can see further down! ;D Excellent images Welshy.

I dunno Goonie - the blade has finished its job & is leaving, hence the calling card. But I do see your point of view too.
Welshy, you could never write too much I we'd never get sick of reading what you wrote.
WIP has me wondering what else is going to go in there & how the various elements will tie in. I love that wallpaper. Great metal & wood. Thanks for the sneak preview!

Don't know really what to add more Welshy, all are great , Cranberrycrush, excellent to frame it and hang it on the wall, it would be a great piece of art. Again mate the wood is so realistic in Apt#9 & Keyhole Surgery, so much blood. r2d2, is amazing, by its details and the perspective, about the shadow, I can't really see a shadow, the best way Welshy is to make it to be compatible with the perspective of the floor and also a bit of thickness to the arms, see how they look flat comparing with the strong effect of the floor, by the way the background is so nice.

The Keyhole one has a little ironic humor in there. I like the way its done as well as the smiley face the unknown person drew. The third image, is beyond words. The perspective is extraordinary!

Great wood textures, Welshy. The keyholes make you want to see what's inside. The smiley face is a good addition. Steampunk WIP looks interesting, looking forward to seeing it finished.

I agree with everyone's comments on your latest three pieces. Phenomenal renditions. r2d2 is the best I've seen so far done in Paint, and the Keyhole piece is so spooky that I have a feeling Hollywood directors could use this on a poster for a movie ad

@ Goon', BarbieQ', sargon', Helen, B'Penny and Pixie many thanks for the kind comments. Even more thanks on the critique aka suggestions for improvement. All good advice. Maybe a bit tooo 'red' The WIP ... it's on the back burner. I really don't know where to take it ---------------------------------------------- Failure ... revisiting an old file. Making the board 3D but realising I shouldn't be lazy and should make each piece individually to get the right looking light and shadow

Games like that are always frustrating. I like the organized free-fall. Not overly chaotic that way. Though it would be much harder regardless of how it may look to figure out how to blend them in different free-fall states etc. The more I poke around the less likely I am to even consider suggesting that though. Unless you are actually fond of that base concept, then it might be something to consider to make it seem like the board is flipped/falling.
That's one reason I'm scared of realism though is that everyone carries a lot of concrete perceptions. You can more easily fool the eye on some details, but its hard to beat someones inner eye.

@ Venice' Goon and Del' ... many thanks guys, glad you enjoyed it I prefer this version to the original, there's a bit of life and movement in it. @ Del' ... I don't think I'm going to make individual pieces. Low attention span ;D Much appreciated for taking the time ...

The checkers image is just phenomenal. I KNOW I commented on it, but either my computer's possessed, this forum is playing tricks on me, or I completely forgot to comment.
Perspective can be an enemy at times...well, for me it is, so I understand that it wasn't easy to create such a view. I love how the checker pieces seem to be frozen in motion. Just a great idea!
I was also looking for your Kaleidoscope image, but didn't find it. I guess you haven't posted it here.

I like to watch the old black and white films, a lot more atmosphere at times ---------------------------------------------- My love affair with Kaleidoscope continues with Talisman on Page1 This technique is my next tutorial
