Got turned on to this program by a co-worker - was told it was EASY to use. I'm still waiting to find the easy. Mostly I will be using it to build ads for monitor display so need text effects and photo modifications. Help!

Hi there doreenc. Welcome. All image editors take some learning, but I think you`ll find PDN is easier than most . When I first started I was not on any PDN forum so I turned to You Tube. Just type `Paint.Net tutorials' into the search box and there will be loads to chose from dealing with just about anything you can think of.

So maybe there IS hope - before this, I've tried Photoshop and I've made SOME headway but it's been mostly a study in frustration. If this doesn't work, I'm going to stay with my limited Publisher program.

I'm sure we'll all help you in any way we can. Don't be afraid to ask any questions ... something is only 'easy' if you know the answer. If you're going to be working with a lot of text, then working with Layers is the secret to the best results Welcome

Welcome doreenc, Until you came aboard I was the newest so thank you!! It's all good here, there are certainly people who are well versed in the use of Paintnet, it's ins and outs, etc. The tutorials are truly the way to go. You'll learn tons just by trying them yourself. Again, people here are ever ready willing and certainly able to help you progress!! Welcome aboard!!

Hi Doerenc! Good to have you here.
When I was new I started with doing as many of the tutes as possible. I tried the easy ones first. You may not be creating something you need for your purposes but what it does do is allow you some understanding of how to do things like using the plugins & working with layers.
The best advice I can give you at this stage is to always save your work as a PDN file & keep as many of the layers as you can in case you want to go back & change something later. Then save it as a PNG file (lossless, unlike JPG).
Some of the tutes tell you to flatten at the end but I'd only flatten when I save as a PNG.
If you are working on something specific, post an image & explain what you want & we will see if we can help you.
Again, great to see you here.

The best thing to do with most software programs is to experiment. It will be a little hard at first, but with this forum running and all, it'll be easier. Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll be sure to view the tutorials and then post questions, when applicable. So far I've only viewed 2 - one to cut out a person from a background and one on how to remove a background. I understand the background removal with a combination of the magic lasso and erase and have gotten that to work but cutting out an image and saving as a png is not cooperating. After using the line tool to cut out my figure, I can't get it to drop into a new file. I KNOW I'm doing SOMETHING wrong but can't figure WHAT.

Welcome aboard Doreenc, After you finish cutting the background, delete the lines layer and Flatten, then save as PNG with high quality. Check this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=odZiJlUKAG0

After cutting out your object, add a new layer, paste it into that, then un-check the layers below - that you don't need anymore - so that your new cut out layer is the only one showing, then go to File and "save as" - make sure in the drop down menu which appears that you have "png" chosen and save to a file on your computer. Hope that helps!
