I drink whole milk because skimmed milk is very watery. Though the milk they sell in stores isn't truly milk, there are lots of additives.

Where I get mine it's not really all that more expensive. It's sure worth it to be able to drink milk from cows with no artificial hormones, harmful pesticides, etc. I even noticed that it tastes much better and creamier than regular milk. Organic Milk from now on for me.

I used to milk my own cows & that was only about 6 years or so ago. Real milk, still warm from the cow - gives me the biggest pain in the guts but so worth it. I drink the cheapest whole milk from the supermarket. Probably is meddled with, watered down or whatever but it tastes ok to me now. I love the taste of goat's milk. Doesn't have that heavy, coat your tongue feel as cow's milk. Very nice in coffee & as custard or cheese. Soy milk tastes good but I get a lot of pain with it & its not worth it, horrible in coffee. My sister made almond milk which tasted great but the pain nearly killed me. Doubt that it would go ok in coffee. I still drink about 6 litres of milk a week (about 10 pints) & it used to be about 9 litres. Sometimes relieves heartburn...dogs & girl ratties love it too.

I've been drinking skim milk for so long even 1% tastes too creamy for me. Unless it's flavoured, like chocolate, strawberry or my favourite Coffee Commotion. I do use 1% in coffee or tea. Before workouts I have a shake with skim milk, fat free yogurt, and skim milk powder - it tastes pretty good.
I was hoping to do a kick ass cardio workout today but my foot hurts. Might hinder me a bit. I'm wearing my shoes with orthotics and I'll see how it goes.

After a while you do get used to skim (as in no fat) but it costs a heck of a lot more. In my workplaces they don't have it so I just drink whatever is there in my coffee. Tetra-pak (long life milk) is horrible.

I do drink Organic whole milk which is better than some other milk, but I just wish they wouldn't mess up our food that we eat.

Skim milk costs less here, but not a lot. It seems to go by fat content, the more fat the more it costs.

I have always stayed healthy by adhering to a strict seefood diet... When I see food, I eat it, I also start the day with at least 10 mins of moaning and groaning before a quick jog to the bathroom where I spend at least 30mins swimming around in the tub ;D

AFG When you feel like exercising, do you lie down until the feeling goes away? My favourite exercise is a good brisk sit. ;D

AFG & BP, love the way you guys think.
After dragging a 3 piece wall unit up the stairs (2nd storey) & the most awkward turns, I have a few large dark bruises but pleased with myself & hubby as a couple of old farts...
Feel good so the thing about the endorphins is right - after the body stops shaking ;D

Looks like sitting will be my exercise for a couple of days. Don't know what I did but my foot hurts like hell and it's swollen around my big toe. It hurt a bit Saturday, then it felt better so I did a step workout, and it still felt okay. Sunday it started hurting again, and I've been limping since.
I did some weights yesterday, and I suppose I can think of something to do today that won't aggravate it. But this kind of thing really sets me back, and ticks me off.

Huh. Be careful you haven't gotten a splinter of something in it so it is some kind of inflammation.

Sounds like gout. One of my colleagues is suffering from that at the moment.
I have to laugh at my sister-in-law, she mis-pronounces arthritis as arthur itis. I have tried for many years to correct her pronunciation but I've given up. It is a joke between us now that Arthur is visiting...meaning that we are feeling a bit more arthritis that usual.
I hope it gets better BP. Sounds really painful. On the up side...better workout for the mouse fingers. ;D You can always go for a good brisk sit ;D
If it doesn't resolve in the next day or so, please see a doctor.
One of the officers at work went home saying that she has whooping cough. Not sure if it has been diagnosed by a doctor or she suspects it. Now hubby is sick as a dog & had Monday off. I don't like the sound of his cough but it is improving. He presented to the Emergency department & was told to wait until his name was called. 32 patients, an old lady who was practically comatose with it...he thought he'd be back in a short while. Yeah...no! I know that one of my students waited from 4pm to 2am with her young son. He is in a serious condition with IV antibiotics.
What is the visible difference between a cold & flu? Really they are 2 different things (rhinovirus & influenza virus) but people often think that the terms are interchangeable, depending on the severity of the symptoms. The big wussy...ok he was really sick...rosehip tea & honey, oliveleaf extract, paracetamol, maybe some ibubrofen, Vaporub on the chest, leave the smokes alone (hardest of all but he did pretty good), rest & keep something on your feet to keep them warm & cover the back of your neck (apparently comes from Chinese philosophy, silk scarves are the best).
I have for the last couple of weeks started coughing - thought that was supposed to happen early in the quit thing??

One trick I have learned when I was battling a nasty cough one time...add a thick layer of Vicks to the sole of your feet and put socks on your feet before you go to sleep. I don't know why but it works wonder. I also take a shot of straight liqueur before bedtime. My wife often stares at me in disbelief that I could down liqueur...

My husband says it's gout, too. What it feels like to me is how it felt when I had a hairline fracture of another toe. It's swollen but not discoloured or red. I can move it a little better now. If it's not better soon I will go to a doctor, but I really don't want to. I've been there twice in the last couple of weeks (for a "female problem", which is nothing serious). I go to a walk in clinic, and the doctor I usually see is away until next week, so I had to see a different doctor. And if they only have the one guy there, and if I don't get there first thing in the morning, I'll be waiting forever. Oh yeah, and my mouse hand hurts a bit too. It's not too bad. I think I know what I did there though - and it was not too much computer time! This getting older just sucks! Hope your cough is nothing serious, barbieq, and I hope your hubby feels better soon.

The cough is related to giving up smoking & like all the other symptoms will ease soon enough. I did read that about the Vicks & must try that next time...doubt if I can get hubby to do it. Men! ;D
I like Green Ginger wine when I have a cold but usually it is all gone by then. 2 people in the house & I know I didn't do it. Really evaporation?? Hmmm...I'd like to see that in a scientifically controlled experiment.
Getting older does suck & so does going to the doctor. Mine wants to see me again. Good luck - I don't even remember what I went to see him for last time but he wanted a stack of bloods done. Oh yeah. Remember now, swollen face. He thought thyroid but I know that it was parotid gland. I cannot eat because the pain is so great & you Mr Medico worry about my cholesterol levels. I'll die of starvation before I have a heart attack.
Mmmm, don't like doctors & I don't have a lot of faith in this one. Lucky for me I don't get sick that often. Prefer to think that much of our health can be controlled by our diet & old fashioned remedies (black magic according to the doc).
BP, hubby is getting better & I hope you do too. Maybe it is bookreading exercise you need at the moment.

We should call this the Crocks Thread ;D
I hope everyone with ailments is better soon.
With the death of a cousin yesterday, I'm beginning to think that there is something not quite right with my town. With a population of just over 2,000 I knew 9 people who died of cancer these past 12 months and know of 12 more being treated for it. Out of those 21 9 are/ were under 45 years of age. They reckoned Chernobyl dumped a shit load of stuff in the forests and the hills. Caseium is still present in the soil in some parts. Add to that mobile phone masts chucking out their energy through the valley I think there's too much of a coincidence.
My point ? I think where you live has a bearing on health. And the rest is down to lady luck. Then the healthy diet may play a part ...

That does sound suspicious, Welshy. Sorry to hear about your cousin. A lot of health is luck. Doesn't hurt to do what you can though. My foot is feeling better. Pouting and sulking only helped a little, so today I blasted it with ice and ibuprofen. I was going to go to the doctor, but I felt I hadn't tried home care enough, and figured that's what a doctor would tell me to do anyway. And send me for tests that would come back normal. My hand is better too, I spent less time on the computer, and I'm reading The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. I heard in the news today that chocolate can protect against sunburn. There have been some studies in Europe, and they're doing one in Montreal. I'd volunteer for that! ;D

@welsh: Did you know that no one lives at the Chernobyl even to this day? I think maybe a small group of people does, but it's almost a ghost town. I wouldn't be surprised if your cousin died due to waste dumping.
@bp: Glad to hear you're doing better. When I sit at my computer for a long period of time, I soak my hands in very warm water and sprinkle Epsom salt into the water. It soothes the pain and I feel good as new if I don't have carpal tunnel, that is.

Welshy, that is kinda high odds. You never really know where stuff ends up in the atmosphere. I am sorry to hear about your cousin.
BP, good to hear that the home remedy was useful.
Helen, I recall my Mum soaking fingers & toes in warm soapy water if we had a splinter or an infection. Sometimes she would use chamomile tea as a poultice. If we were sick with a cold/flu/sore throat - she'd make us drink it with honey. I hate it, even the smell of it but I must say it works. Guess when you're faced with drinking the stuff or getting better, the choice is clear ;D

Speaking of chamomile, I drank that at night yesterday and I slept so well. I had trouble sleeping these past few months, but yesterday was like heaven.
By the way, is there anything (instead of coffee) to keep you awake or energetic throughout the day? I've been feeling so tired for a while now.
