Your Blender/PDN creations are great. The first one is my fave. I really like the colours used in that one. I see you've found two more ways to use your Stumble tut. Very nice. Great start to your new gallery. (I closed my gallery on the main forum as well some time ago. Only post my most recent ones there now.)

WOW. Amazing colors. I really like them all, but if i had to choose i'd go for the once with colors. Think they would make great wallpapers.

Awesome! I like the second Blender/PDN one, with the circles.
Good to see you have a gallery here. I haven't posted in my main forum gallery in over a year. But then, I haven't posted here in 2 1/2 years.

Many thanks, y'all.
I know I posted on the main board I was willing to do a two-part tutorials on how to create an abstract piece in Blender and then the rest in PDN. The other part of those artwork with Blender and PDN, I also incorporated fractals created in JWildfire, which is based on Apophysis, and it's a bit more complicated than Apo. I might get cracking to write a tutorial on how to use Blender, and I think I will create a rather lengthy one because I am not sure how familiar folks are with Blender, and the interface is quite intimidating the first time. My only issue with writing a tutorial, it comes down to this, and I hate saying it, but time. I work full-time and come home to do homework (I am studying accounting, by the way), so artistic stuff are mostly hobby now.

New - Virus. Created with JWilfire, Blender, and blended together with PDN.

The first thing I thought of when I saw Virus was that it was like a giant armoured insect from space! A creepy creation indeed. I like the colours. Gold and purple always go well together I think. I think you have managed to blend everything together really well. A nice image Trev. On the subject of Blender I can fully understand why you would need time. As you know I have used it quite a lot in the past myself(although not so much recently) and I know what a complex program it is. It took me quite a while to get used to the interface. Will you be making a video tut? It`s just that I have followed numerous Blender tutorials and I have found that it is far easier to get to know if you can see what is happening onscreen. I think that is why there are not that many written tuts compared to vids.Having said that, written ones are easier to follow along with as you don`t have to keep stopping the video. Unfortunately it has been more than a year since I last used it properly. I remember I was making a landscape scene at the time, then I went ill, then the laptop went ill, then I bought my Nexus 7 which I naturally got wrapped up in and now my new laptop only has integrated graphics, although it does have a Haswell i7 chip. But Blender really needs a more powerful machine with dedicated graphics which I don`t have at the moment. I am still subscribed to Andrew Price`s Blender Guru newsletter and keep up with the latest developments. He makes interesting podcasts each week which I listen to as well. So I have not lost interest in Blender, just the machinery to enjoy using it. So I would love to see a tutorial posted here on Fans.I hope you can find time for it. I think it would go down well. (Sorry if I rambled on a bit)

I like them all, in particular the first two. Blender sounds difficult, but worth it as the results are fantastic. I recently tried out Apophysis (I'll upload the first image I made in my Gallery on here) but I'm just too fond of playing with PDN to get really 'into' any other programme.

Great colors. The shape is ... Kind of mind blowing. Can't really figure out if it is beautiful, or scary.

Oh my gosh! Unbelievable. I love how you used a few programs at once to create such a magnificent piece! It does look like a virus. Makes me think twice about going outside in the cold without a coat on.

Great work Trevor! I love how the blurred background makes the main piece look so 3D. Purple and gold are beautiful together.

I'd been wondering if that was you "Mr Outlaw" on the main forum. It 'twigged' when I read the post about the Blender and PDF tutorial you were offering. Anyway ........... your Gallery thread has been 'unblocked' and, obviously, eer liked your work, as he said it was a pity all the images had gone! Hope you will reconsider and start up again.

Thank you all for the comments. I really enjoyed making the "Virus" wallpaper. Goonfella, all you really need to do is play with Blender. Add anything you want to manipulate, either with a cube, a sphere, or ionospheric and then in edit mode, pull the face (ctrl+tab and select face) in different directions you want to go. When you are satisifed, hit Ctrl+W and click "Subdivide," and look in the lower left corner of your screen and scroll down where it says "fractal." There's lies the secret of the abstract shape, and tweak with the value. I usually stay below 10. When are satisfied, you can either go to Object mode, add a subsurf modifier or leave it triangular, and add light, materials, camera, and render away! The color of the abstract shape was actually the result of using a colored HDRI map that just so happen to have the color, and I just struck gold with it. The fractal shape in the background was the result of following an Apophysis tutorial, and for the life of me, I cannot remember how I acheived it. I knew it looked great when I rendered it and felt it almost resembled a virus cell. Once in Paint.NET, I used Unfocus to blur the fractal background, duplicated the 3D abstract shape and distorted it with dent. I think I blended it to additive mode. Finally, I added a transparent radial gradient on top and that's it. I think I just got a bit lucky with this wallpaper I made. The total layers are only 4. Pixey, yes, I sent EER a request to unlock the gallery over there, and immediately added back the images. And, yes, I'm Mr. Outlaw! That's actually my birth name, but my adopted name is Trevor Greene.

If you recognize where this idea comes from, you get $50 fake internet dollars, but I was basically doodling in PDN because I was bored at home and finished my homework earlier. It started with a simple ring, and my mind went from there.

Amazing what you can come up with by just doodling. Afraid I won`t be getting that fake $50 though. ( if I do get it can I have the reward in equivalent fake pounds )

It's a beautiful ring, Trev. Kind of looks like a lid that could maybe open to a different dimension...

Goon and Helen, thanks for your comments. While I did start with the ring, once I started resizing it, and I began to see a pattern that once belonged to one of us, Welshy's style, and I added my own flair to it. So tonight, I doodled some more going by some of my aspirations in my favorite collection at dA. I think y'all may recognize a texture in the background.

I love doodling, it's fun to see what happens. Nice images, Trevor. The second one makes me think of a Timex commercial or something.

@ BP, Thanks. Yeah, it's fun just to doodle and then ask yourself, "What if I did this? Oh! What if I add that?" ___________________________________________ I can't help myself. I just had to doodle some more and add more details. Two hours later, presto! I also made some minor change. I felt the background texture was being lost by the drop shadow, and what a difference it made! ____________________________________________ Help! I can't stop myself! It started as a simple experiment to create a vent by a tutorial I stumbled across at dA while I'm killing time before I have to go and babysit my grandson this morning. Then I got carried away as usual. Don't think this is a finished product. It was simple a test piece.

"What if I did this? Oh! What if I add that?" That is exactly what I do. Often followed by "Ewww, that didn't work so well."
I like the added detail. Now it makes me think of a guitar, at first glance, from a distance.
The blue picture is neat. It'll be interesting to see what it turns into.
