Hey guys. Just wanted to pop in and say I'm sorry for being such a lurker recently. I got myself banned from my computer until the end of the school year, so I have no time for PDN. I know it must feel like I'm being a rather useless member at the moment, just popping in to comment on a few off-topic threads, and I apologize, it's the most I can do at the moment and I don't want to leave you guys altogether. Once summer comes I'll have a lot more time for PDN and updating my gallery and giving actually useful comments on other people's work, but until then I must remain
Yours truly, ~Lurker Sidneys1

Helen, You should get it looked at by a doctor.
Sidneys, that is sad - I don't know when your school year ends but I hope it is soon.
Heatstroke, we do understand.

Helen, from your comment, it sounds like either you broke or sprain your wrist somehow, or you are experiencing carpal tunnel syndrome. I would have it x-rayed to rule out a break, but the longer you put it off, the worse it can become. That's a brotherly advice to you. Sidney, what in the world did you do to get banned from computer? I know it can't be adult related, so did you somehow hacked into their system or what? Barbie, school system in the US typically finish either last week of May or first two weeks of June, depending on the location of the school.

Here it ends in December. Either way it is still a very long time. Just going to work without pc access gives me withdrawal symptoms. No cigarettes for 3 hours at a time but unlimited coffee ;D

@barbie and Lance: It's actually a lot better. Well, at least 30% better. I've had problems with my wrists since I was a teen. And Lance, thanks for your brotherly advice.

What a goofball. I'll send this person a dictionary to check up his/her spelling.

Yeah, if people are going to bash something, they could at least get their spelling right. Then they might have some credibility.

I have heard that in Virginia, where I live, the fault line is actually the New River itself. I remember visiting the beautiful cave at Natural Bridge, and the tour guide was telling the group about a huge rib that connect the mountains near the top. She said if there was ever an earthquake and that rib broke, the entire Blue Ridge mountain range could collapse.
My best friend never thought it was possible. Until he started working in a coal mine. He told me recently how he watched a machine and a platoon of engineers making sure to concrete-reinforce a slab that ran inside the mine. Turns out it was one of those ribs. He said it was somewhat of a revelation to him.
Somebody said that if Virginia ever had an earthquake, it would be far worse than, say, California would suffer. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

Fascinating website Sargon. I think I am so fortunate to be living in a quake free zone. OK we do get an occasional jolt but not so you`d notice and not very often. If we get one it`s not until I watch the local news that I am aware of it. For example they showed how the Japan earthquake affected us on the opposite side of the world but the only evidence of it was some squiggly lines on a piece of paper!
It must be scary living in an area where there could be a quake any time and without warning. Although in Japan the real damage was done by the Tsunami. They have learnt over the years how to build quake proof towerblocks. I saw one woman on TV describing how she watched as the building swayed from side to side `like a piece of grass in the wind' and was amazed that it never collapsed. But I don`t think anyone will ever be able to stop the water from doing so much damage.
That`s unbelievable about the ribs Lance. Mountains seem so permanent but even they can`t withstand the forces of nature. I just hope you never see it happen.

I just downloaded Firefox 4, and when I launched it, my first impression, "Why, O, Why is it copying Chrome?!"
I like the face that the screen is shown more, but still, come on!

The advantage with FF is it doesn`t have to look like Chrome. You can easily choose to have the tabs in the usual place instead of on top if you prefer. Chrome doesn`t give you this option. Just right click on one of the toolbars and remove the tick from `Tabs on Top'.
Basically though if something is found to be popular and works well then it`ll be copied by others. I bet it won`t be long before Chrome copies the FF tab group function.
I still prefer Chrome now. For some reason this website takes an age to finish loading in Firefox and you are left sitting there waiting for all the proboard icons to appear(like the `new' button for example), whereas in Chrome it all loads straight away. Strange.
However I have found that the Sketchup videos at harwoodpodcast.com take much longer to load in Chrome than in Firefox. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

Hmmm...I remember when I was at uni, their website would not work with FF but did fine with IE & Chrome. I am sure there is a technical explanation for this but I think it has something to tdo with the way they are written.
Upshot is that I had to have 3 browsers installed since I really have an aversion to IE but I need to get updates for MS, FF for uni website & Chrome for everything else.

I don't like Chrome. I played with it for 2 hours and then uninstalled it. I prefer Firefox. Speed isn't a problem for me with Firefox, only on occassion, and that's usually on Sunday.
Goon, I am thinking your laptop might be problematic. Sometime there would be 1 bad laptop out of 50.

I LOVE Chrome. But everybody does copy it now. In my browser, the only thing I copied was the tabs on top. I like that.
And Goonie, what kind of laptop do you have (Dell, HP, etc.)?

Dell Studio XPS 1645, i7 Q720 CPU @ 1.6Ghz 4Gb RAM, 64bit Win7 Home Premium SP1
Lance I`ve not had any other problems with the laptop at all. Everything works fine. It`s just that this website seems to render better in Chrome than FF4. I`m wondering if it might be worth uninstalling FF again only this time delete my profile as well and start from scratch.

Dells are always problematic. Mine is a piece of CRAP. -- Chrome is a lot better in my opinion, but more things are supported in FireFox. It is worth a shot Goonie.

Goon, have you physically tried another computer other than your laptop? A public library (or wherever you go for a free Internet for a short time)?

No not yet.
I`ve had two Dell laptops now and been quite happy with both. Thinking back though, I remember having trouble accessing dA on the previous laptop as well. It was one of the reasons I upgraded to a 4Meg connection. If both of them had trouble loading the website maybe it is something to do with the router. I no longer have the old one now though so I can`t check.

Rant. I just posted the third theme idea for the WOTW on the other forum and not one single entry for the previous two themes. I don't think the past two themes were bad themes but nobody seemed interested. I have noticed that there have been fewer people on there in the past few weeks. Maybe that's the problem. I think we have a pretty good theme for the SAC, so I just posted Abstract Wallpaper for the WOTW. Everyone likes abstracts !
