Glad you liked the link BP. I've had it bookmarked for literally years LOL The Lion Sleeps Tonight was my older brother's favorite song. I got a stuffed Lion that sings the lyrics holding a mouse that does the high notes. Their mouths move and the lion sways to the music. LOL
Barbie..... I find watching DVDs easier because you can rewind them and all the old shows are closed captioned on them. Some shows I'm watching for the first time. Like Mork and Mindy LOL
Welsh, now that would be a very hard choice to make! LOL Thank god I don't have to choose!

Is it strange that I like to listen to American musical theater? I find the melodies so catchy and fun to listen and sing-along with. One of my dreams was to become an actress and sing on Broadway. But yeah, whatever. That's never going to happen.

Barbie..... I find watching DVDs easier because you can rewind them and all the old shows are closed captioned on them. Some shows I'm watching for the first time. Like Mork and Mindy LOL Closed captioned? I am deaf myself, and I watch nearly everything with closed caption or English subtitles. Now that Netflix is streaming movies and TV shows with subtitles, and my wife and I have cut the cord to satellite dish, we are saving boat load of money. For sports, I watch streaming online at Espn3.com, for those in the US, that is.

wow, 3 people hearing impaired. what are the odds??? I love closed caption. I find I have to watch twice, the first time to read and I mostly miss visual stuff, the second time to catch what I missed. welll.... actually, I watch things way more than once LOL I only have an excuse for the first two times!
This week we watched season 3 of "The Nanny" and "Dharma and Greg" season one. We have 3 bookcases of tv series on DVD that I play when on my laptop. I've been sick for a little over 2 years so it has been a life saver for me having a laptop. Lately I don't really watch anything. This paint program takes a fair amount of concentration.

Please, please don't use the word "hearing impaired," it is an insulting term. I prefer the term deaf or hard of hearing.

really? I'd never thought of it that way. Sorry you took it as an insult. That's what I've always called myself.

I thought 'hearing impaired' was the 'politically correct' term. Hard to know what to say without offending someone.

So true, BP & I try to remember that while we are pussy-footing about, trying not to offend anyone, invariably we do & I try not to take offence. Prisoners, inmates, offenders...what do I call them? I asked. The answers were just as varied. I call them students because to me that is just what they are.
Not that people need labels but simply because we need to identify our relationship with or to them.
I am not deaf but I am hard of hearing which as Lance said is the politically correct term, since disabled or impairment suggest there is something lacking in us. Errr, yeah, my hearing. The thing that I detest the most is when you tell someone that you have trouble hearing they say, "Sorry? What did you say?" or "Speak up. I cannot hear you." or "Yeah, conveniently deaf." etc

venicet, I know you didn't mean that as an insult, and I don't think that's a politically correct term. I think that is an outdated term that just won't go away.

I have nothing better to do, so I googled 'hearing impaired'. From www.nchearingloss.org/hi.htm: Good to know. But if you read the last bit out of context, it's a little weird.

yikes LOL I started something! I have always called it hearing impaired, meaning my hearing is impaired or not so good, never thought of it meaning I'm personally impaired, but that's just me I guess. Technically I'm tone deaf, cannot hear higher pitched sounds *phones, birds, cats meowing, bells* but hear deeper tones better than most * motors, thunder, banging* I compensate by reading lips to help. Self taught, to the amazement of my doctor.
I had three older brothers that used to bug me about my hearing so I totally understand Barbie about the comments that bug you. They bug me too LOL
Lance, I know you didn't think I was insulting you, I was apologizing for .... ya know, I"m not even sure. LOL I just felt bad I said something that could be construed as insulting.
blackpenny, thanks for googling that term. it's interesting that I've never heard that before. At least now I will never call someone hearing impaired again! LOL
on another topic, one of my customers * I clean houses privately* said that to call little old ladies cute or sweet is degrading. When someone calls me cute, I take it as a compliment even at 50 LOL So yeah, sometimes being politically incorrect is bound to happen because we all process terms differently. And living in so many different countries, and cultures doesn't make it any easier.

If I could choose a favorite song, it would be, um, um...I can't think of one.

I've had An Old Fashioned Love Song by Three Dog Night stuck in my head for a couple of days, so I listened to it tonight, and I think I'm okay now.

LOL I actually started listening to Lady GaGa because of hearing her songs on the show Glee. I'm a Gleek. Can't wait for the second season to be released on DVD.
