Totally awesome Sculptris work matey. Very, very good. I got rid of it 'cos it kept crashing It does crash quite a bit, but it allows you to recover the last point you were at. I think because it's not a completed project is why it's so unstable. Still, it does some really fun things. It sure does tax even my 1 gig video card, so I try not to over do things with it. I think it has been included in ZBrush. I would love to try out the completed version in ZBrush, but the cost is way out of my league. I think I might try to get around to something like blender now that I have figured out this program. Well, maybe after I finish a few projects in the works.

Blender does has similar capability to create awesome work. I haven't given it a shot yet, and I am very, very tempted to jettison Win 7 for a Linux OS.

I am very, very tempted to jettison Win 7 for a Linux OS. Last time i had a go at Linux was about a year ago. Things look deferment and are called different things. But it was my impression that it worked fine. I was impressed with the ease of downloading and updating programs. But alas, it don't run PDN. Last news i read about Ubuntu was that they are going to make the user interface look more like a MAC.

Yeah, and my web browser will not run on Linux (or Mac). I think a Mac is better than Linux, but that is just my opinion.

Possum, you're doing great things with Sculptris. ;D I uninstalled it too, it was crashing on me, and I had a computer issue that told me to get rid of new software. I wasn't quite getting the hang of it anyway, I was just playing and not making anything. Welshy, I can't justify the cost of Zbrush to myself.

Yeah I can't either. It looks awesome, but at that price beyond me. I'm getting frustrated with Sculptris too. I have created a couple of pretty complex sculpts and now that I'm adding detail it keeps on crashing on me. I've been working with Blender and really hate it. I hate it so much. However, I have been able to export some of my sculpts as .obj files and import them into Blender where I can add detail in sculpt mode. It's really hard to use and makes me want to cry. I'll keep at it for a while, but I may be on my last nerve. If I can just finish my barbarian warriors (both male and female) I might like Blender better. I need to get back to Paint.net and Gimp.

Possum, I totally understand your frustration with Blender. I have been complaining that the tutorials I see online aren't very well taught.

Possum...I love you. The 123 software looks promising. Very promising, and it's from Autodesk?! Sweetness.

I like the look of 123 as well. I watched one of the videos and it seems quite user friendly - unlike Blender!

Great work with Sculptris mate, I don't know if you are aware of the fact but all AutoDesk software is available as free downloads, it is meant for students and unemployed but basically anyone can down load it, the only restiction it comes with is it is watermarked round the edges so if you print something out it has free copy round the edges of the print which would be easily cropped of in PDN.

I have AutoDesk Sketchbook Pro and it's an awesome program. I'll look at the links given. Sounds interesting.

I didn't know that. I have a full blown copy of AutoCAD 2004. I used to use it for mapping, but it has all the stuff for engineering and 3D work. I've never used it for 3D though and have no idea how to use that part of it. Thanks for the info ! Good to see you around ! I think I can say for everyone that you have been missed!

Today I have been reading Blender for Dummies and I'm still determined that I will get something out of this program. While watching some videos on the You Tube Blender Foundation site I ran across this video and thought of you Helen. www.youtube.com/user/BlenderFoundation#p/u/2/9mpIR7hIHhoit led me to this program that you might want to read about. mypaint.intilinux.com/The artist in the video uses Blender to create 3D to render as a 2D painting. You'll have to watch to see what I mean. He uses Blender, Gimp and MyPaint. Beautiful artwork!

Just had a look at the youtube video, fantastic work he is producing but once again without a Tablet the painting will be very difficult to achieve.

I have downloaded MyPaint and I liked the program a lot. Very simple and the canvas constantly expand automatically, which is a great thing for artist like AFG and Helen, and I love how the pressure sensitivity works. I took it off as I didn't see that I would use it that much.

I was hoping that some of you might find it helpful. I agree with AFG that without a tablet it would be difficult to do this style. I still have so much to learn in Paint.Net, Gimp and now Blender, so I doubt that I will even download it now. I'm making progress in Blender. I don't hate it now and I've not broken anything. It's still frustrating, but I'm getting somewhere with it now. Maybe I'll even get to the point where I can post something. With that said, I'm still working within the standard Blender, but I did run across a tutorial on how to load Lux Render for Blender. I looked at some of this guy's tuts and his rendering with Lux Render is just amazing. So eventually I plan on downloading and installing it. I went to the homepage and found that there is a version for Sketchup! I wanted to share this link with you Sketchup guys in case you wanted a different renderer. Is that a word? Renderer? Oh well, whatever! Here's the link in case you want to check it out. www.luxrender.net/en_GB/index

Possum, that is one of many render engines that can work with Blender, but so far, that is probably the best free one, and it looks better than the one I am using right now. You mentioned tutorial, what tutorial site are you using for Blender?

Possum, that is one of many render engines that can work with Blender, but so far, that is probably the best free one, and it looks better than the one I am using right now. You mentioned tutorial, what tutorial site are you using for Blender? For the basics and to get to know the interface (a must because Blender is not what you would call user friendly or intuitive) I am reading this book "Blender for Dummies". I have downloaded it as a PDF. www.arts.professorklein.com/docs/blender/Blender%20For%20Dummies.pdfI have tutorials saved to my favorites from several sites but so far I like these two sites the best, especially Firechild Videos. firechildvideo.blogspot.com/p/blender-tutorials.htmlwww.blendercookie.com/I have also found this book, but have not started reading it. en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_ProTime is at a premium for me with the work schedule I have, so I'm looking at learning in baby steps. If I can learn a few things from a tutorial that gives me general information that I can use on other things, then I see that as time well spent. That's why so far I'm really liking Chad at Firechild Video. He is a professional graphics artist who has a degree in graphic arts and has also worked for a TV station doing their 3D logos and graphics. He started using Blender just to see what it was like and was hooked on it. His Blending with a Noob is a pretty good series to learn the basics. I would really be stoked if you gave it a try and learned to like it like I am. You are really good at this 3D stuff.

You`re doing just great! I know how complex the program is so well done indeed for getting this far - it`s more than I ever achieved.
