Congratulations and good luck Manc. The nervousness will go away as soon as the class starts I'm sure!

Hey, that's great Manc! I know someone who took a City and Guilds course in Needlework and Embroidery. The instructor came from England every four months or something and they'd have a week or two of classes, then homework for the next class. It was intense all right.
Good luck!

Manc, as a computer teacher,m I can tell you a secret - most of the time when things go wrong it is because we failed to read the screen properly.
I am just as nervous as starting a class as the students must be. I wish you well & know you will enjoy it. ;D

That's great news, Manc! I've always wanted to take more computer classes, but I didn't have money. Good luck with it and enjoy every single moment of it. Keep us posted.

Good luck mate. I respect everyone who has the guts to go back to education at a more mature age. Just remember to drink the beer after doing any assignments you've got to do

level2.Thanks for all your supportive comments, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I did my first assignment on Monday and found out today I passed with 98%. Still only second in class though, to a right smart a**e. Got one more assignment before 11-11, then on to the more complex level 2. I've put a link to the course if anybody is interested and I'll keep you posted how I get on. You're right Welshy, about staying off the beer, I've had to curtail my drinking drastically. . Cheers.

Just looked over the course specs. I teach computer skills - the Microsoft suite at least but this is just out there! Now keeping that in mind - you got 98%! That is truly amazing. The other guy... I agree with you... I am really happy for you & you should be suitably proud of yourself. I am glad too that the consumption has been curtailed. Not an easy thing to do. So double proud!! I hope that you achieve the marks you want & maybe even beat that other guy next time Good to hear from you & with such good news too. Well done, buddy!

Hi everybody. I'm back. I'll try to do a new pic in the next day or two. I've had to withdraw from the course because of the Benefits Agency, long story. Anyway, I passed most of the course with distinction, just the Cisco I've missed. The computer, I'm using now, I built from scratch, one of 4 I've built for friends and family. Anyway, I will have to come up with a new pic soon.

Welcome back, Manc, look forward to some new work from you. How much it cost you, I like to build one, good one too, have no clue at all, because I heard the self-built PCs are the best and cheaper.

@manc: Welcome back. Sorry to hear it didn't pan out.
@sargon: Cost is up to you. That's what really helps. Plus you can build/expand in stages as you dont have to commit on some things right away and have better control on how its put together to do so.
There is a potential break-over point on the lower end where you actually cant beat the big boys like Dell, etc (for quality parts at least). However, once you get into the mid and upper end, you start saving a ton. Plus you have much more control over upgrades or life extensions by not being locked into limited BIOS etc.
In US dollars, the breakover point for the low range is around $400-500 ... almost anything over that and you're going to be happier financially. Even factoring in the cost of the operating system.
Wish I had a chart showing the price difference between an Alienware machine and building it yourself handy. For the upper end of theirs it was usually about $800-1200 cheaper. Not much difference in a solid gaming rig vs a graphics rig unless you need pure OpenGL etc. Then you might was well just build a server with Xeon processors and such.
Outside of some portable toys/laptops, I've not bought a pre-made PC for my own use since 1989. And even that one was a used Turbo 286 that got overclocked thanks to HP using correction wires for voltage. ;D
@manc: Sorry for the mini hijack.

@ Delpart, thanks for the great information, I was doing some search on Google, there is so many helpful sites, funny, I have HP with 12 GB of RAM, but I have feeling it is not using just 4 GB, see how the pre-built are, lol.

Hi, thanks for your messages, no probs Delpart join in. Sargon,If you have installed more memory, it might be that the modules are in the wrong sequence, I might be wrong. In answer to your question about cost, it was minimal. I posted an ad on 'Freecycle' and got all the parts free. It's amazing how generous people are and what you can get if you take the time, plus have a family member with transport. I got 4 motherboards, 3 towers, memory sticks, sound and graphic cards, etc. I've got a spare computer now, just needs a PSU. Anyway, thanks to you all for posting, I'll try and help if you need any advice. After all, I've got a 'City and Guilds' now. Joking. Cheers, Barbie, Sargon, Pixey and Delpart, good to be back.

Hi everybody. Iv'e not done a lot lately except a logo for a nephew's company's t-shirt. I'll post it when I remember how to do it. Good news though, I've gone back to college and am doing OK. Hopefully I'll be a computer tech by the end of June. Cheers
