Okay. Let me reply to each of you: @goon: I was kind of thinking the same thing when I was working on it. Plus, my sister was studying her Physics homework (out loud), so I think it had something to do with it. ;D @sargon: Well, I think it's really good that it made you go, "Whoa." Some people just create a white circle and then blur it to create a sparkle. However, in order for the "blinks" to come out and really be part of the image, you have to create it in steps. The darker color on the outside and then gradually making them lighter on different layers. delpart: You can read what I wrote Sargon. On the first layer, I made a darker pink circle and blurred. On the second layer, a lighter pink, and then an even lighter color on the third, and finally, a white circle (blurred) on the last layer. Thanks, delpart. @barbie: Ooh, I didn't think about fairies, but I really like that idea. Thank you kindly! Pixey: Your comment made me It was so much fun working on this piece. I didn't want too much glossy going on, but I still wanted it to be there. It was actually my last idea that I added to the image. It was originally without the glossy. blackpenny: Thank you, BP. I always remember how we also have a large male crowd on this forum as well as other forums, but I couldn't help but make it pink and purple. ;D

AH-HA! I knew I was doing lighting wrong with single layer stuff ... Okay, maybe not wrong, but even in my double whammy attempts I didn't think about it correctly to imagine the lighten blend modes in series t layer up the flow of light. I've done it with blurs, makes sense now that I see it and see it described ... Thanks much for the help. EDIT: and then I saw similar technique being described in this wikibook on PDN just now ... go figure. Glowing technique described in lightsaber tutorial in the Wikibook for PDN.

I feel guilty about being one of the last to say how brilliant this. Stunning. The shape of the reflection is a genius touch. I'd be honoured if you'd allow me to use this as part of an animated image I'm playing around with the idea of

delpart: I actually used a white for the glow the very first time I made them, but then I noticed different colors in the glow and realized that was what made it really come out. You're welcome. @welsh: That's okay, Welsh. I appreciate it you commenting any time. And for the reflection, I didn't want too much attention on it. And I'd be happy if you use my image. Your ideas are always cool.

Another piece finished. As I mentioned on DA and the main board, this was for the Interactive children's game. Due to time issues (the author needs this done in like three more weeks), this project will be taken over by an animator. Hope you like it!

Love the living room, Helen. The carnations are very realistic. In your previous picture of carnations in a vase I thought they looked more like geraniums (aka genus pelargonum), but these are readily identifiable as carnations. I also think the light and shadow are great— the glare on the floor from the lights and the highlights on the furniture to the shadows beneath the tables.

Amazing image Helen! Love the telly. We can all pop round to watch a few DVD`s and have a chinwag. ;D Great work with the lighting, although to have the glare from the TV showing on the couch I would imagine the rest of the room would be a bit darker. I would have put the couch opposite it as well , instead of underneath. I would be much nicer to crash out on the couch to watch TV rather than the chair. You could have added a table for the DVD/Satellite box and a few dvd`s in it`s place. Just an idea. Superb job.

Wow. Now I know where all my patience has gone ... ;D Some of the perspectives dont match. Not a critique. It lends a surreal quality that I rather enjoy. It also makes it more human and less rendered. This specific type of quality forces the eye around to examine each piece in and of itself. The feel from the old Warner Brother's sketches where they pushed realism is what comes to mind. Some of them had pushed the idea of warped spaces for so long it lent a quality to other things I think. Or perhaps just too many extra pizza toppings. I had to mention it because my urge to make the convergence of parallel lines is always there. I wanted to stop at just Wow. But, it wouldn't be me if I didn't dump some of my thinking. Should all that seem distracting, just go back to the first line of the post, because that's still where I'm at on this one.

The Living Room, is so beautiful, colors are so breathtaking, and the 3D effect is so effective, I love the reflection of the TV on the couch, great touch, also the light on the floor and the shadows are very nice, the flowers the fan.. I think I like everything in it, great image Helen. Do you think images like this style the elements to have clear bold edges (profiles) is better than not to?

Agree with what has been said here Helen. This style of yours is fantastic too. I love every aspect of it but the flowers are just fab. I esp agree with Delpart's comment on the human aspect. Well done.

That is a nice living room Helen! Like Goonie I would have put the couch opposite the TV, but that's a decorating choice. I also wouldn't have it on the Sports channel. I like the painting over the fireplace too.

mindshift: The carnations were a brush from TBR Pro, so it saved me lots of time drawing it all out, which is good when you're illustrating lots of pages. I'm glad you like the light and shadowing. Thanks, mindshift. @goon: I was going to ask if any of you wanted to join and watch T.V. Since this was meant for a game, I didn't want to make the room too dark and the characters were supposed to be in full light. This is an incomplete piece (I was supposed to add characters, a dog, and other minor adjustments--as I mentioned before, this project was handed over to an animator and boy, was I glad!). And there's another couch right in front of the t.v. The one behind the larger vase. delpart: Your responses make me think. I like that. Since I was working from a real photo, the perspective is mostly correct, but the floor lines were a little sloppy (I was supposed to fix it, but again, it was tiresome). I don't mind you stating your opinions or critiques/suggestions. You're always welcome to do so. Oh, wait. Did you mention pizza? @sargon: When I first started this page, I though of your tut where you created the room using S3D, but I wanted a different perspective. Thank you for mentioning all the things you liked in this image. It makes me feel that I accomplished what I meant to. And yes, I agree with you about the bold edges. @barbieq: This style is more of a geometric design since it's a room. Unfortunately, one of my biggest enemies in drawing is perspective, so this was a killer. But it seems that it has very good responses. Thanks, barbie. @bp: Please read what I wrote to Goon. Oh, and yeah, no way would I leave it on the Sports channel. ;D The dad was supposed to be sitting on the couch opposite of the T.V., so I figured that's what he would've been watching. The painting was done in Twisted Brush--I used the acrylic paint brush or something like that. Thank you ALL for writing such meaningful comments!

Helen - the Living Room is just so inviting in every way (OK - except for the Sports channel - I hate sports) but I'd love to visit this room anytime. I can smell the wonderful flowers

Okay, I see the other couch now, I thought it was a chair. I was caught up in looking at the flowers, and my spatial perception is all but non-existent.

Pixey: You're welcome to visit any time. Oh, and believe me, there will be NO sports channel. Thanks for commenting! @bp: That's all right. My latest work are icons I made for my client, but she requested different ones. All made in PDN.
