Up until recently I had the same problem with SU. I just couldn`t work it out. Then I came across these tutorials which have transformed the way I use the program. www.harwoodpodcast.com/sketchupTake a look, I think you`ll find them a big help (if you still have the program that is!). Meanwhile here is a view of the back of the house. I`ve added the original so you can see the Shaderlight effect.

Goonie, that is beautiful! I love the windows & the reflection. The urns with the plants are fabo! Love the tiles/pavers too, the lattice at the top of the fence & the colours you chose for the bottom part of the house.
I love the stonework & the pebbles too. Aw heck! I love ALL of it!
It all has a lovely shape & so clean. Stunning!

Thanks Barbie & Chris. I`m getting to know the Shaderlight plug in a bit better. I think this is my best effort so far. Barbie you`ll notice the colour of the roof is a bit darker - good call. It makes for a much more realistic effect. I`ve added the original as well now so you can see before and after Shaderlight.

The perspective is excellent. I love how you "built" the house. The way you placed the tiles (or whatever you call them) was a great touch.

Very nice work, mate.
I haven't had a chance to play with your stadium file and import it into Kerky, but when I find the time, I'll see what it can do. One advantage Kerky has over ShaderLight is the strength of bump map, it will give it a touch of realism. I'm not knocking ShaderLight, I just think that it's a bit "step down" from Kerkythea.

It`s only really a step down because it`s the free version and not the full fat paid for version so there are restrictions , which is why I was disappointed at not being able to get Kerky working. But I think it does a decent enough job. There are bump settings available, I guess I need to play around with them a bit more. I`m looking forward to seeing the stadium . Thanks Helen. Patio slabs I think is what you are thinking of. The ones near the house with the table on I made and coloured myself but the bluish ones around the large part of the garden is one of the paving materials available in SU . Oma , I did think of using PDN to make it look like a polaroid with the white border which would have made it look even more convincing. Never got round to it though. You can move in anytime. ;D

Holy Cow ! Simply amazing. I may have to go through the tuts you linked to and give it another go. I'm really hooked on Sculptris right now. Sooooo much fun.

I was looking at the image again. I had a question regarding this program. Do engineers use this program, too? Like building architecture and other buildings or is this just a for fun program? I'm amazed at what can be done with it.

Thanks Possum, I think you`ll enjoy the tuts. He`s very good at explaining things, although he does tend to waffle on a bit sometimes but as they are such high quality tutorials I can put up with that. Helen yes indeed it is used by engineers. There are many businesses who use Sketchup in fact. The program has several different templates to choose from. There is the Default Simple Template (which I use) , Architectural Design Template, an Engineering one and a Product Design one as well as a template to use if you are making buildings to upload to Google Earth. All are available in either feet and inches or metric. It`s easy to choose one though, and easy to change as well if you have a particular preference. So it can be a serious program and a fun one as well .

I have seen some Kerkythea user make awesome image using SketchUp.

Decided I wanted to make a bird table for some reason so I picked one with a slate roof. I plan to make some with more complex roofing as well.

Great images but the second one I like the best with the 3D lettering & the inside of the roof. These are really, really well done!

Thanks Barbie & Helen. I`ve been looking at various woodworking videos and tuts for SU recently . It`s fun making furniture and stuff. I`ve uploaded this bird table to the 3D Warehouse for anyone to use.

I agree it does look real. If I was just casually looking at it, I would have thought it was a photograph of a bird table. I really had to look close to see that it was a 3D rendering. Great job ! I would love to have one of these for my wild birds. They would love it and I would get to watch them enjoying it.

After having a chat with the guys on the SU forum they pointed out that the angle of the wood grain on the feet and the braces was wrong. Apparently there is a way to adjust the angle of the texture when you apply it so I will be re-visiting this one to sort that out.
And I also noted at work yesterday that I had not quite got the braces right. They are actually slightly narrower than the feet. So that`s one more thing I will have to sort out.
I tried making a bird table in PDN out of curiosity . It`s so much more difficult as you can`t move/resize/rotate the different components to fit as easily.
