Talking of TV programmes, we were talking about one set in Canada the other day, but couldn't remember what it's called. About 2 P.I's named Doyle. A bit of a light-hearted drama. Any ideas ? Um, Republic of Doyle? I've seen it advertised and in the TV listings, but haven't watched it. I don't watch a lot of Canadian made shows, because they're not usually very good. Yessss. That's the one. We enjoyed the humour in it Many thanks and glad you enjoyed my latest @ Del' ... " Gothic wonderland in shadows and chrome." ... You've got a great way with words. Those conjure up so many ideas in my head I've never played Dune so the book can remain a closed chapter ;D Thanks mate @ Goon ... thanks mate. Always very much appreciated to have your input. I've always wanted to draw a library with PDN ... I never thought of a metal one ... I wasn't sure what the middle part represented but a time machine sounds good @ Sargon' ... many thanks mate, glad you enjoyed them all Any Kaleidoscope work I'm successful with is down to you opening my eyes to it. I wish I had an attention span that allowed me to spend a couple of weeks on it's secrets ... @ BarbieQ' ... many thanks. Sliding doors ... now there's an idea; possibly portrayed as an abstract if I could carry it off ... but it's an awesome kick up the ass to experiment a bit more @ Helen ... You wrote a poem for lil' ole me I'm always happy when you like what you see Holding your work in such awe I'm always thinking More More More ... Many thanks @ Venicet ... many thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the 3 latests. I'm not sure if I said when I posted the bridge one, but the planet is thanks to Goon' ... Good to see you back -------------------------------------------------- Metal Fatigue ... raiding old files, manipulating existing textures and then using the fresh manipulations to be distorted again in some way or other. This image really drained me. I dread to think how many total layers have gone into it, and only about 5 are labeled. Extremely tedious finding the layer you need. I felt like Elmer Fudd sometimes when I got my nose in close to the Layers thingy ... If anyone sees imperfections, please point them out. I've seen some stray pixels I've got to treat ... just got to find which layer they're on Essentially WIP because I'd love to merge all my Factory series together in one way or another ... I wonder if I can convince my wife we need a 32" monitor ;D

Welshy I could never get fatigued at looking at your work, even if the metal does! Absolutely stunning textures ! There are some fantastic ones that would be superb when used in a spaceship image. The uses for these are limitless. How about a futuristic city as well? If I have one very slight criticism, and it is very slight, it`s that the blue barrel doesn`t quite fit in . If you toned down the colour so is was a bit greyer then that would do the trick. Hardly an `imperfection' really , more a question of personal taste. You are probably happy with Blue. ;D Great work mate. As much as you can`t comprehend my Blender work, I can`t comprehend how you did this!

*laughing at the idea of a 32" Monitor* .... heck wait! plug your laptop into the big screen tv??? Guess what I'm doing after I write this response? LOL my monitor is now 39" widescreen! LOL No one will be able to watch television now! As usual, your work is amazing! So much detail and work into every piece! I seriously have no idea where you get the patience to do such detailed work! Great job Welshy.

I'm with the both answerers above. I love your metallic work and who doesn't know you're the "king" of metal (no pun intended)? It seems like a quiet place. Oh, I think I see a fully metallized R2D2 in a few places, but I could be seeing things. If you want to make this image even larger, I don't think a 32" screen will suffice. You might need a bigger screen...

Well, I cannot see any stray pixels & after creating such a fantastic image I totally agree with the need for a larger screen.
The blue barrel looks out of place to me not because of the colour but the texture & shape is so different from the rest of the image. All that aside, I adore the image & it is one that I could look at for hours & just let my mind wander. It reminds me of shapes & textures/colours of things I've seen, imagined or dreamed of. It is such an eclectic mix of realism & futuristic abstraction. I am so pleased that you did this one. A true pleasure to behold! Well done & bravo!

Awesome! I don't even want to think about how much work this took. The blue barrel doesn't bother me. It kind of makes me think, how did that get there? And in real life, you see things that seem out of place. I'm sure I could get really deep and philosophical about it, but maybe later.

Thanks for the kind words WB. Its just how I think, but I rarely allow myself to express it. I come across sounding like a lunatic or a New York aristocrat "trying too hard" ... Not sure I can flush that out fully, but I think in metaphors and puns. Its a defense mechanism against everything needing a perfect place. Or perhaps I do just have a way with words sometimes. I read enough, so I'm sure some of it has to rub off from time to time ... And I wont mention the professional word smiths and published authors in my family that I constantly feel inferior to. (Yes, thats a conversational technique of admitting to something that is meant to convey insecurity ...) Right, as usual I looked at the art before the post about it. First thought was "I recognize all of it. Cool re-work." Glad to see this is what you were doing. Had it all been newly created I would be checking in to hospital to have my head scanned ... ;D Personally the Blue barrel is a nice accent. It can be a statement piece etc. Much like a lot of still life pieces that showcase a Red rose on a muted, yet detailed background. The Rose is the object of focus to draw attention, but the background can often contain a ton of detail that speaks volumes itself ... I see it this way. The highlighting around it makes it pop a bit much. You could consider muting that a little in the surrounding textures as there is no blue in the highlights to make it seem like that object is causing them ... The oblong football (HA! I called it a football) object next to it has a small moire occurring at this resolution on to top and top right of it that makes it seem fuzzy versus sharp like the rest. And not the right kind of fade blurring that could take place there. You may want to tweak that a little in your finalizing. Spent some time on the rest but I just dont see much of anything I'd want to dig into really. Maybe some different color lighting and potentially a change to the barrel to make it seem a little more distinct or textured. Probably thanks to the silver on blue it can seem a little fuzzy at a glance and lack the crisp characteristic the rest of the textures hold. From having known many of these that were borrowed from now I can truly say bravo on the blending. There's a ton of stuff there and lots of highlights added from what I can tell. I like the look overall. I played with one of your textures and found a future city look that I want to revisit. It matches a dream like state/vision I had inspired by the 5th Element movie and the Foundation Series novels ... This would be a room in that place based on the over the top mechanized theme. Thanks for hammering it together. Each scene of this complexity keeps getting more detailed over time. Right. I think that's all that came to mind just now. Darn phone just broke my thought all to hell.

not really fun, finding out the most active users of the pdn forum came here without even telling me about it or asking me if I would join too, thought I was a pdn user too? anyway, I won't complain on that anymore, I am here to tell welshblue about his wonderfull gallery and that your latest image is very swell! it must have taken you a lot of time to create it and many many layers, the outcome is brilliant

As I am enjoying the whole view, I am also enjoying every fine detail of every element, and trying to figure out how did you shape them, there is really a missive amount of details, and a great idea to threw the blue barrel there so we can tell how huge is this room with those heavy metal pieces, I feel that football (as del described it) will explode any time while I am watching (I like how you used same pattern of left side column on it ) , and so curious to open that sliding gate where those orange lights are to see what is hidden behind, really great work Welshy, I love it, and thanks for creating and posting it here to enjoy it. This is not a criticism nor a feedback but I will call it a result of a study, so don't take it too seriously: The two objects ( like shuttle things) in my opinion, are out of perspective comparing to the floor/ceiling but not the background, I think the best position for the left one would be on the same level but in the center of the image. The barrel with the way it is sitting on the lift is off, too, we actually won't see the white right side as long as the lower edge of its body is parallel to the front edge of the square lift, the easiest solution to correct this is to flip the barrel horizontally, but that will alter the drama, so the best thing is to rotate it clockwise a few degrees' A quick study for the shadow of the right and left sides of the background, indicates that they are inserted in the wall but the straight basecove killed that effect.

Wow 10 days has gone since I posted the latest Factory WIP. Thank you everyone, your support and just as equally/ possibly more importantly for the perfectionist in me ... the critique. Sometimes you really can get too focused and stare/ work on an image too much There's a new stage of the last image evolving with all the suggestions for improvement taken on board with much appreciation. Hopefully it won't be blurry ... but still amateurish because it's a hobby --------------------------------------------------------------- 3 latest ... actually quite lazy images Re-visiting/ Distorting old work. Water Cooled ... inspired by repairing a broken radiator on a totally mangled front end of some machinery. Weirdly this image came to mind. Polar Transformation takes the credit ... and I must admit to being a lil' bit scared at how easily it happened. Brainwashing ... or I'm just totally sad ;D Inspired by being happy with the result of Water Cooled I re-visited the old file of This and played around adding/ deleting and Toothless was born The 3rd one Inter Madness ... for this board only. Incendia and PDN ... about 35 % - 65% ratio.

Intermadness is so hard to believe that it is not actually made of metal. Superb work! Toothless & Watercooled remind me of whales - the big mammals I can see a smile in there. Love the metalwork. Not lazy at all but pushing the limits of an image & experimenting. I love all 3 new ones. Sometimes things just work out right first time & that makes up for all the times when we struggle with our art.

When I saw Toothless and Watercooled I was amazed at the superb textures in both. The lighting, the shadows, the textures - all perfect. And then I saw Intermadness. Wow! Such fantastic metalwork. I was thinking how on earth did he make those shapes in PDN? But then I read your post. Incendia. Ahh (not a criticism by the way ) just a case of - so that`s how he did it! I think you have combined the two programs to make an absolutely stunning image. This would make a superb space station I think. The little indentations in the spheres could be filled with white and slightly blurred to give the impression of windows. I think combining programs can give much better results. My last space image `Silent Assassin' benefited from that with the asteroid made in Blender. Awesome selection of images mate. It`s always a pleasure seeing what you come up with.

The fluid textures I found intriguing. But I quickly lost what I wanted to say after I saw the Intermadness composite ... Still rather speechless on that. As usual (I keep saying this) I just looked, then read the post after ... Based on the shadows, etc I knew it wasn't PDN per se, but the rest of the coloring, etc was done so well it made me question any impression in that regard. Reminds me of a gearing for a transmission, the previously mentioned space-station, and something Mr Tesla would have on his workbench ... All at the same time though. I guess I'm not speechless, but I'm lacking more than that mini-blurb to describe how well done that came out. And that's the rotten part. I can appreciate the other two pieces, but I'm so stuck on the fractal loving goodness that I'm not even sure what to say of them ... *mutter* darn trump cards in the mix always win ...

great 3 images mate, I like the texture, for some reason the toothless looks rubbery more than metallic, I don't know why my brain is feeling it as that. But the inter-madness is something else, I really missed Incendia, all because its slow rendering. Love them all, Welshy.

Nothing wrong with revisiting old work. Every time you go back to something you have more experience that helps you see it in a different way.
Great new images - more excellent metal work, and Intermadness is really cool.
