Yup, Americano am I. However I always find amusement when people in various places around the globe go off about the word soccer (among other things.) Maybe its the geek in me but I just see it as interchangeable so I always find amusement in word play. Heck, I find amusement in word play in general ... It was always football is the funny part. In doing another couple of cursory looks over time on this word, I've had to scratch my head as to how it was taken to by whomever over here ... No clue on how, but where is from is Oxford. More than one reference on that but thats not a bad one Wiki points out since that guy's findings seem pretty solid all around. Oddly enough I've never wondered where cricket gots its naming origin ... it's not a draw of interest or conversation in my realm. Though I always liked hearing people refer to the game. Maybe its the accent difference or the strange obsessive tone that can be had for fans of most things ... I'll skip all the jokes about a game that seems to take years to play with no evident ending ... However, sports fans and nationalism/regionalism is much to be applauded. I've just never had that attachment to any group professional sport really. I enjoy American football but I dont go out of my way to watch and or follow it at all ... Though sports I have to admit to having gone out of my way to see in person include a lot of the stuff from the X-Games (Winter and normal), paintball tournaments, rock climbing, and competitive eating to name what I can think of atm. Oh and competitive sander racing. I had to see that. Belt sanders turned into mini dragsters ... Similar to lawn mover racing but with a lot more alcohol involved it seems. ;D Righto, that's probably way too much of answer for just about anything in text ... Especially for a non-subject.

There's only me and thee who call a game with a round ball 'Football' not the 'S' word ... I think it makes more sense to call that game football than the pointy ball game. But I'm not in charge of these things. And the only sport I 'watch' is hockey, and only because I'm in the same room as hubby when he's watching. It's fun to watch him watch. Especially the last game when there was a trade announced. What a commotion! Delpart, I like word play too. I can have lots of fun at www.word-detective.com/ .

I live and learn. Thanks for putting me straight on that Del' But I still prefer the term Football @ B'Penny ... I've always meant to say, I always chuckle to myself when I read the text under your avatar ;D Hockey looks a mad game. As in sanctionable violence. ;D I always enjoyed being a goalkeeper but no way would I get between the puck and the net. It was bad enough @ skool when I was always wicket keeper in cricket. That hurts enough ... -------------------------------------------- We bounced back from the 12 - 1 drubbing last week with a 5 - 0 win today ( it reallyyy should have been more #9 ... 3 goals in 15 games is not prolific ... ) in yet another Away game. The negative watching my son get punched in the face by an ex- semi-pro player who is a lot bigger and who only getting a yellow card for it... but then being totally proud and will happily pay the fine for the yellow card my boy got if the Club won't pay it. He took him clean out later in the game with a tackle that 'involved the ball.' ;D

I agree on the football thing oddly enough. I've always had a lot of cognitive dissonance regarding the American naming convention of our football game. And it seems nothing like competitive sports to bring out a little of out inner demons. At least we've come some ways from true gladiatorial things for the most part (hockey may be one of the exceptions of course.) I should probably post this in the what are you listening to thread, but I want to quote a source and the fact it mimics almost word for word what I told someone several years ago at a music festival I was helping to run: "some people call it electro. some people call it it techno. some people call it rave. some people call it edm. i truly don't care what it's called, i just think it sounds amazing at 3 a.m in front of 50,000 people. -moby " Another world, another life of mine. Rather miss it tbh. Darn economy. As for the Moby himself, ... interesting chap for all that, but I dont agree with some of his politics. And I like to eat animals. Uhg, too much Pig's Nose in that toddy. I have no clue where this was headed now ...

@ B'Penny ... I've always meant to say, I always chuckle to myself when I read the text under your avatar ;D I have days when I'm not sure which side of the line I'm on. ;D There are always discussions about violence in hockey. What's the saying? - I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.

It's finally snowing! Disregarding the horrible snow storm we had in October, this is the first "real" snow fall we've had over the months. Ah, it's so beautiful outside.

Again, maybe I'm just in an odd mood today, but the first thought was, "Pics or didn't happen." ... Now normally this is not a really positive statement... In this case it was just, "Ah rats, no pics ... I'll have to imagine it." Random thoughts is all.

delpart: I think I got your hint... I'll be posting some soon. Great hint ... great pics I love Friday nights. I can turn the phone off. Screen calls on the land-line and almost always dedicate some proper time to the boards and PDN Then there's watching my son play footy for our Town like I used to on Saturdays. He's a lot better than I was but I could hold my beer better when older men tried to lead me astray ;D ;D

The other week we got stuffed/ annihilated/ totally played off the pitch/ humbled (I've forgotten about it tho' ...) 12 - 1 and today we played a team who beat them 1 - 0. And we had a deserved 2 - 0 win. Could have been more except for the post twice Maybe why we love the game mate ?

Absolutely . I just wish I knew what team was turning up from week to week with my lot. One time they might play the other team off the park , the next they won`t turn up at all! That`s why we won`t win anything . I still maintain that we need a new manager with fresh ideas, despite what the Wenger loyalists say. Would Chelsea keep a manager who had not won anything for 5 years? I don`t think so somehow.

Did I mention that we have a new teacher that has taken over my classroom? Stressed me out so much with her antics & nastiness that I threatened to resign?
Guess what?! She has resigned. 27 February I take my classroom back full-time instead of 2 days/week. It has made my boss & admin very happy too. Over 700klm is a long way to have to deal with constant problems because an employee doesn't listen to a more experienced one. My boss's boss thought that it might be a good thing to have a new teacher there & let me write resources (I do that anyway because I love it). So now I have 3 weeks to write resources & plan my classes. Oh joy! I am jumping in the air & clicking my heels!

That's good to hear BBQ. I'm a team oriented worker by trade/desire, but often somethings just plain dont work ... And cause me to be balder than I already am in the process.
Outside of the free software, I've been surrounded by negativity on this side of things all day. Just hearing someone actually grateful about anything was a blast of clean air.

I sure am. It is really hard to describe how much I miss the teaching.
One of my former students read aloud some writing she did. I cried. Her handwriting was neat & small. Why? Because she can now see. I fought hard to get her some free eye tests & glasses. The smile on her face made it so worthwhile. A woman 50+ who feared for her life every day for almost 40 years. Now she is safe & is getting the learning she yearned for.
Yeah, I miss teaching!
