Fantastic WIP. I would be proud to call this a final image , it`s brilliant. So atmospheric. I love the way the orb lights things up and the way you`ve incuded the face. It`s awesome already , I can`t wait to see the final image.

It's truly a work of art Very clever what you have done. Each time I look at it the spiders make me shiver (err... did I mention I hate spiders?). And now I notice a rodent at the bottom, which is OK, as I like them

I don't even know how to explain how I feel about "In Dreams We Wander." It's wonderful. It seems like there are different dimensions into one image. The person looking at the scene slightly above him makes it look as if he's a giant, but at the same time, he's in proportion to the scenery he's looking at. I don't know how to explain this all, but it's amazing. It's true that only in dreams, things like this can happen.

As noted on the main forum: There is so much to see in this image. It has a wonderful atmosphere, dark & mysterious & yet the bright bits give hope. I like the little animal at the bottom with the grass. It shows that there is much wrong with the world but there are so many good things too. A beautiful composition. Well done AFG!

Stupendous mate. I recognise that place ... ;D A really nice job, I especially like the stone steps (not sure it needed the extra spiders ? ... but that's just me ) It's all blended together really well, I haven't checked amongst the 2,000 odd images I've got to look through ... but if it is, it's going both the awesome manipulations and my homage to you gallery

@ heat stroke & Ella : thanks, the work is an adaptation of an Escher work @ Pixey: Spiders can be a bit scary for sure, but I changed my attitude to them after watching a David Attenbourgh program where he explained that if they became extinct over night not only would the food chain break down but in a matter of days the world would be over run with flies @ Goonfella: Thanks mate, I've caught the Manip bug @ Helen: Thanks Helen, I was hoping it would confuse the senses in the same manner in which dreams do @ Chrisco: Thanks mate, the weird and wonderful imagination of AFG at work @ Barbieq: I think the way the world is slowly falling apart we are reaching the stage where we have to listen to, and rely on the wisdom of the oldest among us to pull this world back from the brink. To many societies see the elderly as a burden rather than the vast bank of knowledge they are. We also have to learn to accept everything has a place on this earth and if we do , things that should conflict will work in harmony @ Welshy: Cheers mate, the spiders on the path are included to tie the two scenes together, while the tree acts as the start point and the separator of the next scene

Spiders have their place for sure. I just don't want them in my house or my car.
I rescued a great big hairy spiky looking spider when we were mulching the trees we cut back. Should have seen hubby's face! Me saving a spider. Ok, I picked it up very carefully so not to hurt it on a stick & placed it gently into another tree. It was a Bolus spider, apparently very shy & harmless to humans. Bolus spiders have almost like a new-born kitten fur on them. They look nightmarish. Net casting spiders I try to protect too. I was responsible for getting one killed that was as big as a dinner plate. They are really interesting.
They've done experiments with rice I think where they protected the spiders from predators & the crop flourished because the spiders ate all the nasties that harm the crop.
Very true, AFG about the elderly too. So much gets lost as each generation passes. Old wives tales are often gems of wisdom. The floods we had recently has many an older timer shaking their head in disbelief as they know some people build their homes in the wrong place & the councils think they are so smart because their database shows nothing about floods.
Too often humans upset the balance of nature & when she tries to right it, there are usually catastrophic consequences.
I said I liked the little rodent because to me it says not to overlook the little things & that they are at our mercy. We owe a lot to lab rats & others who suffered or gave their lives to improve ours. Aside from the aforementioned, I think rats are cute & my 3 girls agree ;D

"In dreams we wander" wow! you have to lay off those spicy snacks at night. That's positively frightening, but a great piece of art! Thanks goodness my dreams aren't like that, I'd surely never hit the pillow. ;D

AFG, your photomanipulation is really nice. I don't know what to make of it. It seem to have a bit of a nightmare/good dream theme going on.
It's interesting, and I fav'd it at dA.

I have not had much time these past few months to stop bye and it was with real sadness I read about Omas husband, nothing in life prepares a person for the pain that comes with the loss of a loved one. On the digital art front I have done very little as Web Design and Development should be renamed Programming and Software Engineering, which has led to me applying to transfer over to the Visual Communications and Media Design degree which IS art based. So basically I have been doing more traditional art in my free time, here's a sample of what I have been doing, this one will need a few more hours to complete and is done using pencil

AFG, all too often I found that the units have very little to do with what they are titled. History of Art was one that comes to mind. Should be renamed to Philosophy on Art. In any case, I am pleased that you can get a transfer so that you can do what it is you really want. The few times I did drop a subject I found that the knowledge gained was no burden to carry.
I am so happy to see you pop in. More to the point, I was so happy to see your pencil work. Really great shading. This will be a stunner when it is done. I love the eyes & the shadows around the neck.

It is really super to hear from you AFG. Thanks for the news on your study course - I'd been wondering how you were getting on. The Portrait WIP looks amazing and, like BBQ said, the shading is really superb. Looking forward to the next stages

Echoing everyone else, Im happy to see you pop in! I really like your pencil sketch! I like graphite much more than charcoal, unfortunately every drawing course I have taken only teach charcoal.

@ Barbieq : It has been a frustrating few months made worse by my course tutor informing me that up until a couple of years ago it was a lot more art and design based. The transfer over is not a certainty, I had a portfolio interview last Wednesday but unfortunately I used a lot of my digital work for it and what they were looking for was tradition work in different media and storyboarding of an idea, so it may mean doing a years art foundation to build a complete portfolio. The good part is it has made me pick up the pencil again and appreciate tones , values, shape and line, something I had been happy to let Line tool and Gaussian blur do for me ;D @ Pixey : thanks, I'm on holiday for a couple of weeks so I should be able to look in a bit more, the portrait is more about getting the feel of the pencils again, at the moment I'm still a bit heavy handed and I'm also putting line where there should be contour. @ heat stroke : I have never used charcoal but I have seen some stunning works created through it's use, pencil like any other media is all about showing the transition of light values, the best way to practice that is shading shapes, sphere, cube etc

I hope they let you transfer. On the up side, as much as I hated the philosophy part of art (Andy Warhol's comment that art is what you can get away with, would not leave my mind. Had to read Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance again just to make sense of some of the readings.) The lecturer had a prior history with hubby & that did not sit well with him & he marked me so hard that we thought about lodging a complaint. The other subject on elements of design was wonderful. I had a great lecturer who accepted my opinion & encouraged me all the way. I got straight High Distinctions for that one. I still don't regret any of the study. It could be good to do the foundation course but a year is a year. On the other hand, you're still young.
I am pleased that you have picked up a pencil again. I've thought about it at least ;D
Hope to see you more over the next couple of weeks. I do miss your valuable input & I am sure others do too.
