@ Dug : I have always found it to be a great way of shutting the world out for a few hours , it often lets me look at real world problems and alternatives clearer afterwards.

Oh AFG! I am so very pleased for you! I think they just knew that this man has far too much artistic talent. Something we have all known for a long time.
I agree too AFG that art takes away the rest of the world at least for a time & things seem much clearer later. Hubby has always said that by sheer necessity, the creation of art is a selfish act.
I hope we can get a look-see at the painting. ;D

@ barbieq : I was one happy man after reading that letter ;D and I will defiantly let you see the painting . Simple Sphere on page 1 was created using paint brush and blur only, no S3D

Great shading technique. It looks so real. It's awesome how applying the right amount of highlights and shadows an image can become alive. Superb work!

Now that is one great exercise in making shading and highlight. It doesn't look like that much, but if you have tied to make something like that you know that this is not that simple at all. I must say you did this perfectly.

I think it has all been said.Being able to do on PdN. what you do with pencil and paper or paint on canvas is brilliant. Nice one!

Simple but superb! I prefer to make my spheres the same way. S3D is useful for some things but I think you get more `natural' results doing it manually. The only thing I would change is to add a nice pale pastel shade to the background to show of the sphere a bit better. Nice one afg

Wow, just using brushes and a bit of blur to make that sphere? *whistling in awe* That's a great testament to your artistic talent.
I agree with Goonfella's suggestion to add a light background to make the sphere pop a little.

Thanks for the comment everyone Goonfella it was thinking about your approach to planets that gave me the idea for doing the sphere. Lance i might just do another more colourful version, maybe add a few more objects. This is the sphere before starting to add highlights and more shadow.

I am thinking that alpha masking had been used a bit here.
