@ Dug : Thank you, at one time I used to rely on blend modes to produce lighting effects but now I paint them in and alter the opacity also using clouds and erasing sections then changing blend mode can produce some good results @ heat stroke : Thank you The Loch is about painting what is around me, once again PDN and Photoshop Here is Donald, it was not easy painting him with the mouse, can't wait to get a Wacom

Wow! It might not have been easy but I think you`ve done a fantastic job. Before I read your post I thought this was a stock image you had used , it looks so realistic. The Loch is awesome. Such a serene scene. The trees and grass are faultless and the reflection you have added is perfect. Great image afg.

This is really fantastic, I love these birds, and this is so beautiful, I thought it is a stock image too, you did a great job mate. The picture needs another element, I don't know really what it is, but I feel something is missing there, may be I am having this feeling because of the size of the canvas..! not sure, but the work is excellently done, though.

The duck is just fabulous! Very real. It is so hard to draw something like this without a tablet but as we can see, it is doable. The Loch is great! I love the mix of textures but the grasses just blow me away. The tiny little flowering bits get me in every time. It is lush & as mentioned - serene. What a great job you did!

@ Goonfella: Thanks, I am fortunate to be surrounded by lots of lochs where I can go and just sit and watch nature at it's best @ Chrisco: Thanks, I love drawing trees with pencil, there is something very peaceful about them @ Sargon: Agree with you, I spent a few hours coming back to work because I had the same feeling, I think it may have something to do with the perspective @ Dug : It has taken a couple of years to begin to achieve a style I can build on with digital art, the positive feedback and comments have been a great help @ Leif : Thanks @ Barbieq : I am sitting here laughing because it is a bit of advice that you often give that helped me with Donald... " Use a large canvas and then reduce it in size"... using a larger canvas would not help, but zooming in the canvas to make the area I was working on a lot bigger did ;D

For some reason, I am thinking there's a monster lurking under the calm water with Donald swooping near the water. Maybe it's the name of the piece, "The Loch," that is giving me the idea.
Funny how name can instantly connect to the legend of the Lochness Monster, which I think is a real thing.

@ Helen : Thanks Helen, I am trying to approach the work more as if it were a traditional style painting @ Lance : Good old Nessie, is she real or not ? certainly keeps the tourists visiting the area, I'm heading up there in a few days for the Rockness festival Fading of the Day once again is about trying to paint more using smudge and paint brush

Wow. A hat-trick of triumphs mate. TheGateway ... lovely brickwork. A really fitting texture that matches everything up so well. Love the glow on the steps, nice job on the 2 peoples ... but what really catches my eye, is what's in the distance TheLoch ... truly beautiful. Ducking great job on the duck, great sky, trees and foliage. I can see where Sargon is coming from ... I can picture a bit of scottish granite on the shore just to break up the greeness. But it's all beautiful anyways without Fading of the Day ... excellent job on how the river meanders through the valley. Awesome job of smudging the spine of the mountains, very believable. The star of the show for me is the grasses in the forefront - just That light patch amongst the darker with the longer grass in front is a picture in itself for me Not to mention ... what a great sky

Thanks Welshy and Goonfella, I have posted a second version saved as a .png, the jpeg version has come out much brighter than it should have and looks like "The middle of the day" instead of the fading light at the end of the day.

Golly - Fading of the Day - is dreamy and looks like Scotland ;D The png version does look a 'tad' better than the jpeg. The red flowers in the foreground look amazing, with the first blush of colour. Great work

Amazing. The entire motive looks 3 dimensional. You really maneged to make it look like a real painting. Yes, it is true, there is a deference between jpeg and PNG. The only advantage i see in jpeg is the small file size. But if you are not limited by that, i would always use PNG.

That is quite a difference there for only 5% loss, I suppose you could use it to its advantage at times. Anyway roamin' in the gloamin'.Atmospheric brilliance! Nice one.

Now that I have more free time I am able to finish works that I have been doing for some months, 'Fading of the Day' was finished ready to post when Sargon posted his work which had mountains and I felt it would be disrespectful to post a work that also had mountains as a major part of it at the same time, so I waited a few days Abstract 1 is going to be printed and is my Dads birthday present, it has been a few months in the making, the full size is 5800 X 4000 Pixey, Leif and Dug.... thank you for the comments, they are always appreciated
