I start things then wander away from them and start something else. I'm keeping everything and maybe it will all come together eventually. That is the way i almost always do. ;D

That's pretty much the way I work all the time. And I'm still waiting for some things to come together ... When I'm feeling blocked I play with the Random Effect plugin. I'll start with any image, for example a checkerboard or clouds or something, then click on Random Effect a few times and see what happens. Sometimes what comes up is god-awful, but sometimes you get a combination that's kinda cool, and you can use it later. Sometimes you do have to just walk away from it altogether. Time away helps you see things with fresh eyes when you come back.

All the new ones are looking good. Definite improvements in the ones you've altered The pick of the bunch for me (no pun intended ;D) is the rose glossy. Excellent use of the Fern Fractal plug-in The fridge freezer is nicely done and a great indication of how far you've come whenever I lose my muse I re-visit old files and try mixing and matching different parts/ play with distorts and basically click, click, click until I find something I'm happy with and develop it. Another source of inspiration for me is a life experience in abstract, or song title/ lyrics. May you find your muse soon

The fridge made me laugh because that's where I put my son's art ;D Everyone goes through the 'Art Block' , it's very frustrating when it happens but it does pass , search out some PSD TUTS , they can be a good source of inspiration and some can easily be converted to PDN

Thanks everyone. I think the block comes from wanting to do something all on my own and not just following a tut. And also not wanting to copy someone's style. I'm working on trying to make a jewel as I don't really like any tuts on them I've seen so far. *gem not just a jewel* this is what I've got so far.

Some great new images, I really enjoyed them, especially the glass orbs with roses, very nice idea and a very clean work, the golden one is fantastic. I like the refrigerator and the idea very much , you will soon need a bigger one or may be bigger ones. Please keep posting new works, you have a very nice style which I like very much. The gems are very good, you just need to play with the highlights and shadows some more, the blue, violet and red ones have a good 3D effect, they are popping off the screen because you managed the highlight very well on them, but they still need more and, shadow as well, but others they are less 3D (flat), you really don't need to use tutorials to get what you want, just check real objects and try to apply their effects on the screen, especially the light/shadow. I have tried the diamond so many times in PDN but never succeeded, but I discovered that it needs to have regular geometric shapes on the surface (triangles mostly) and transparency with a lot of gradient effect, try the Polygon/Star and Polygones plugins, they both render a very close to diamond shapes.

wow, thanks everyone. I have to go to work shortly but I know what I'm doing when I get home! LOL I've bookmarked the page for the diamond hint Welsh so that will be my first stop. Sargon, thanks for the tips and comments. I think my white shadow parts are a bit too white, but I'm going to keep playing with them too. I like the kind of gem look they have, but it's still not diamonds LOL I think the problem I'm having is shading white. and then having diamonds suggested with triangles but still needing to be white or clear. Very frustrating. I'm going to go find a picture of one tonight and keep it handy to keep referring to it. Until then, I'm off to clean houses!

I think I'm getting worse instead of better LOL We must be looking at different things. I really like that. Have you tried selecting the diamond, then Effects>>> Stylize>>> Relief ?

Well Venice, I disagree! If I'd made that I'd be grinning like a Cheshire cat. I think you did good. At least a very nice start to a diamond. I've tried a few times & gave up in disgust. Welshy's idea sounds good.

Looks very good to me, I think if you make one of the 8 triangles solid white will enhance the highlight, and adding some drop shadow where the gold meets the diamond.

Welsh, I'll try that. I can't see what it is supposed to do yet, but I'll mess around with it. Barbie, thanks. I'll not give up just yet LOL I have a bunch of pictures of gems to compare with now. Hopefully that will help. Sargon, I had noticed that the pics of real gems have some really white out spots so that they almost don't look real either. I have to start from scratch but I"m working on just getting all the shapes in black and white for now to select each piece separately as I work on them. I'm more organized this time around and making a pattern first LOL I had put a bit of shadow in there, but when I shrunk it down it became much less noticeable. Okay, I tried again. Better??

Don't hate me - but I prefer the 1st one you posted. The second one looks great, but I think it's the texture of the 1st one that gives it the wow factor

thanks Welsh. I like the fact that there is more sides to the newer one, but the bright shine seems to take away from the middle part of the gem. I still have the pattern saved so I can continue playing around with it. I'm going to leave it for a while now. Been working on it for over two days now LOL maybe once I learn more I can tackle it from another angle.

They both look good to me. I've tried gems before but just didn't get it quite right. Like everything you have to try different things and see what happens.
